Employee of the week: Magpie

Sapphire Splash: Rooster, lays no eggs

Magpie suffered some head trauma while fighting another one of our roosters and has made amazing progress in recovering this past week.

Sapphire Splash tend to be very sweet, docile birds and Magpie is no exception. He is the best flock protector and absolutely loves his girls.

Kids Summer Bible Adventure is almost HERE! 🥳
We’ve got two hours of learning, worship and fun planned for kids ages 5-12. So mark your calendars! July 28th-31st from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. We hope to see you there!

Our rooster, Magpie, got into a fight with a new rooster that we introduced to the flock.

He suffered head trauma and severe vitamin deficiency that caused his spine to collapse into his throat.

He was unable to eat or drink by himself for a few days and his comb turned black from fear and stress.

I was feeding him vitamins and eventually he was able to eat and drink by himself again.

We kept him fully separated from the flock for a week and started to slowly reintroduce him by putting him in a dog crate in the coop.

I introduced him fully back into the flock and isolated the rooster that attacked him (an entirely other story).

After almost a month of not hearing our baby crow, he finally got his voice back 🥹🥰

Our 5.5 month old dark Brahma rooster started crowing today!!!!

Employee of the Week: Sand Piper (Sandy)

Sicilian Buttercup: 150-180 Small White eggs per year

Sandy laid her first egg this week!

A fun fact about Sicilian Buttercups is they have their own variety of comb! The Buttercup Comb. Sandy is an average Sicilian Buttercup, weighing in around 4-5lbs. While a standard hen weighs about 6-7lbs, Sicilians are NOT bantams. Sandy is super sweet but her small size makes her rather flighty.
