Fun Friday in the orchestra room ✨⚔️
Who says you can’t have Star Wars, light sabers, and a live orchestra in concert?
Because great music-making should make room for imagination too.
May the force — and the music — be with you. 😄

🎯 What Would Dr. Belcher Do?

Students have mentally checked out after testing.
What would you do?
👇🏾Drop your answer before reading mine

My answer:
🎶 Student Conductors: Teach students basic conducting techniques and let them lead.
🎻 Peer learning: Invite every student to learn a new instrument. Then have them teach one another. Peer learning is powerful
🪇Golden Project: Have students create maracas and design joyful music experiences with students with special needs across the building. Materials:
• Two 3 oz paper bathroom cups
• Rice
• Tape
These simple materials became maracas. This was a wonderful cross-department collaboration that created a meaningful musical experience for all students.

When engagement drops, restore focus with meaningful activities that reconnect students to the joy of learning.
These strategies have worked for me. Share what has worked for you below.

🎓 Monday Motivation

It's not about pushing harder.
It’s about helping students finish encouraged.
Excellence does not have to come at the expense of joy.

Students learn best when they feel successful.
Protect the joy. That matters too.
Joyful classrooms don’t happen by accident—they’re designed. And that work transforms programs.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers and mother figures! 💐🤍

Motherhood has taught me strength, patience, faith, and unconditional love in ways I never imagined. I’m grateful for the joy of watching my daughters grow into strong, talented young women while also having the opportunity to pour into so many students and families through music and community work. 🎻

Today, I celebrate every woman nurturing, leading, sacrificing, and showing up with love every single day.
Wishing you all a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with joy and special memories.

Things Conductors Say the Week Before a Concert 😂

“Again…”
“Watch me.”
“One more time.”
“Cellos… we need to talk.”

If you know, you know. 😅
Concert week is equal parts artistry, adrenaline, and controlled chaos… and somehow we love every minute of it!
What’s your signature concert week phrase? Drop it below.👇🏾

✨ I lead ensembles with joy, brilliance, and a little humor.

🎯 What Would Dr. Belcher Do?
Concert is in 7 days.
Students aren’t ready.
Stress is rising.
What would you do?
👇🏾 Drop your answer first before reading mine.

My answer?
✔️Acknowledge the struggle with honesty and empathy.
✔️Ask students where they feel the most confidence and comfort, then build from those strengths.
✔️Prioritize tone and musicality over quantity.

And don’t be afraid to adjust the program if needed.
Sometimes thoughtful changes are part of strong leadership.

🎓 Monday Motivation
Your students may not remember every note they played this spring…
But they will remember how your classroom made them feel.

As concert season approaches, remember:
Perfection is not the goal.
Growth is.
Celebrate:
✔ Progress
✔ Persistence
✔ Musical courage

Sometimes the greatest thing we conduct is confidence.
Finish strong. Lead joyfully.

I work with orchestras, educators, and districts across the country helping build joyful, high-achieving programs.

🎉 FUN FRIDAY

From full family moments…
to full orchestra rooms. 🎻💛
This season has been a reminder that both matter.

The work is important. The impact is real.
But so is being present for the people you love.

Now, I’m stepping back into a full season of conducting, speaking, and working with educators across the country. I’m excited for what’s ahead.

🎯 What Would Dr. Belcher Do?
You’ve inherited an orchestra program with:
Low enrollment
Low engagement
No clear culture
Where do you even start?
👇 Tell me your first step.

Here’s mine:
We build culture FIRST.
Before repertoire.
Before performances.
Before anything else.
I focus on:
✔ Relationships
✔ Clear expectations
✔ Small, visible wins
Because programs don’t grow from pressure.
They grow from purpose.
This is one of the top reasons schools bring me in to consult.

🎓 MONDAY MOTIVATION

You’re not tired because you don’t care.
You’re tired because you care so much.
Music educators give everything.
Your time, your energy, your heart.
But you can’t pour into your students if you’re running on empty.

Leading with joy also means:
✔ Setting boundaries
✔ Protecting your energy
✔ Teaching in a way that is sustainable

I speak about this with educators across the country because burnout is real, but it doesn’t have to define your career.
