Oh, the brilliance in the room‼️
I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I DID know that, for all practical purposes, I AM an artist. 👩🏼🎨 And yes, I knew a little about climate justice … so I thought! 😬 So, I do what I always do, and I go all in and GROW all the way up. ⬆️
That’s a perfect way to describe my experience at the Taproot Artist Residency with NCCJC l. I was open, willing to be exposed and vulnerable to attack or question, and I was willing, to show up, GROW, and improve. Five days later I emerged from Lake Logan in Canton, NC with more than I bargained for … and I ain’t mad about it!
My eyes have been opened
My mind has been expanded
My vision has been elevated
My advocacy has been upgraded
My understanding has been broadened
My art has been activated
and it only took
5 days
4 roommates (Maple in the house!)
5 fabulous CJC champions
11 of the most passionate and purposeful artists I’ve ever been blessed to engage and GROW with to team up with Lake Logan’s amazing leadership and staff (shout out to Laura and the cafeteria cook). They provided us with
comfortable accommodations
14 amazing meals (I can still taste those cookies)
17 rooms with amazing views
1 hundred extroverted butterflies 100+ breathtaking views
and
more snacks than any one cohort could ask for!!
Yep, that’s all it took for this Woman on the GROW to commit to … GROW up some more. 📈
I’ve said enough to give you a feel for where I’m GROWING with this. However, you’ve not heard the last from me yet. The residency is a year long, and my commitment to the movement is forever.
Wait until I tell you about the 578 things I learned about myself, climate justice, artivism, and the world I didn’t know I was living in. 🤩
Below is a little evidence of the brilliance, passion, purpose, and GROWTH.
