☀️🖍️ Little Scientists at Work! 🔬🌈

Our Lockwood ECE friends had so much fun with a prediction project! Before getting started, the children talked about the different colors of crayons and made predictions about whether they thought the crayons would melt.

Then came the big question: Which color of paper would get hotter and make the crayons melt the fastest? 🤔☀️

Each child wrote down their prediction before we tested it. Then we waited to see what would happen!

✨ Our results: All of the crayons melted, but the crayons on the black paper melted faster and more than the others!

This hands-on experiment was a great way for our children to practice making predictions, recording their ideas, observing changes, and learning about heat and colors—all while having fun! 🖍️🔬❤️

We love watching our little scientists ask questions, make guesses, and discover the answers for themselves! 🌟

Our preschoolers challenged their balance and coordination as they carefully walked across our stepping stone path, building confidence with every step. Then we brought nature inside for a fun process art activity, using leaves and flowers to create beautiful prints with playdough and rollers. 💐

Hands-on learning like this helps strengthen gross and fine motor skills, encourages creativity, and gives children the opportunity to explore the natural world through play.

This week our Pre-K friends have been busy strengthening their fine motor skills while exploring the exciting world of colors and shapes! 🎨🖐️

We painted colorful chameleons during our bilingual story hour after listening to the book “A Color of His Own” and discovering what happens when colors are mixed together. The children loved making predictions, experimenting, and watching new colors appear before their eyes! 🦎💚💙💛

During our small group playdough activity, inspired by White Rabbit’s Color Book, we mixed the primary colors to create brand-new colors while exercising the small muscles in our hands by rolling, squishing, and pinching the dough. These activities help build the hand strength needed for future writing skills. 🌈

We also continued our shape exploration by tracing different lines and using magnetic tiles to build creative structures. As we built together, we talked about how shapes can be combined to make amazing creations and how teamwork, communication, and helping one another make our projects even stronger. Watching our friends share ideas, solve problems together, and celebrate each other’s successes was the best part of all! ❤️

The children in the Dino Den had an exciting day exploring through cooking and sensory art! They became little chefs as they created their very own pizzas, spreading sauce, sprinkling cheese, and choosing tasty toppings. Making pizzas encourages independence, strengthens fine motor skills, introduces early math concepts such as counting and measuring, and helps children become more confident when trying new foods.

Afterward, the fun continued with sensory painting, where children explored a variety of textures, colors, and creative techniques. Sensory painting supports brain development by engaging multiple senses at once while encouraging self-expression, imagination, and creativity. It also helps strengthen hand muscles and coordination, which are important for future writing skills.

By combining hands-on cooking with sensory art, our Dino Den children learned through play, discovery, and creativity while building important life skills in a fun and engaging environment!

Our Forest Friends have been exploring emotions in a fun, hands-on way through finger painting! As children mixed colors, swirled paint, and created unique masterpieces with their hands, they also talked about different feelings such as happy, sad, excited, frustrated, and calm.

Finger painting is more than just creating art—it provides a rich sensory experience that helps strengthen fine motor skills, encourages creativity, and supports brain development. The smooth, cool texture of the paint invites children to explore with their senses while expressing themselves in a safe and meaningful way.

By combining emotional learning with sensory exploration, our Forest Friends are building important social-emotional skills, expanding their emotional vocabulary, and learning healthy ways to express their feelings. Through play, art, and conversation, children are discovering that every emotion is important and that it's okay to feel, share, and create!
