We’d like to thank Knox County Community Foundation for choosing Vincennes University Adult Education - Knox County to be 1 of 23 nonprofit recipients for this year’s Community Good Grant!

This grant will allow VU Adult Basic Education to provide free CNA training throughout Knox County for qualified individuals! We look forward to supporting the needs of Knox County through our free High School Equivalency classes, free English classes, and free training!

𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭💥

My name is Devontay Carter Sr., and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Vincennes University Adult Education — especially Megan and Shannon — for giving me the opportunity to rewrite my story. Because of you, I was able to close a chapter that was worn and broken and begin a new one with a fresh start and renewed purpose.

I was not expected to be born. My mother was told she could not carry or give birth to children, yet I was clearly meant to be here. In many ways, I am an anomaly, and I carry that truth with pride and gratitude.

Earning my diploma was never just about a career or financial gain. I did it for those who are no longer here to witness this moment. I carry the torch in their honor, and I intend to show that it was placed in the right hands.

I am rewriting my family’s story, and generational trauma will not be invited into the future. When you see this smile, know that it came after far more tears than joy—but the journey was worth every one of them.
