Hello all! As we wrap up 2025, here's a few fun facts from Russ Family Daycare:

This year, we served 895 lunches and 1,527 snacks

We washed our hands approximately 5,000 times

And our teachers said "Good morning!" roughly 2,270 times. (And meant it!)

Russ Family Daycare is proud to stand with Woody, Buzz, and all the other toys. While there can certainly be benefits to a small amount of screen time, our program elects not to include screens as part of our curriculum. This includes both tablets and televisions alike. Screen time can be highly habit-forming, even in adults. And if an adult is vulnerable to the habit, how much more so is a child?

The first snow is on the ground, which means it's that time of year! Russ Family Daycare is proud to be hosting Santa's Toy Store this year, with help from the man himself. Come by and meet Santa Claus, enjoy arts and craft activities for the kiddos, and help support local childcare.

Santa's Toy Store will be open every Saturday and Sunday from November 22nd to December 14th, from 12:00 - 6:30. The Store will be hosted at our location at 313 Pine Street in Vincennes.

What's cookin'? At Russ Family Daycare, every meal served is 100% CACFP creditable. That means every food group is served every day, alongside at least one serving of whole grains.

Today's lunch, courtesy of Mrs. Mary, was peanut butter chicken curry on brown rice, served alongside fresh broccoli and oranges. Not pictured: A tall glass of milk to wash it all down.

If you find yourself on the wait list for CCDF vouchers, get ready to wait a whole lot longer. Due to insufficient funding, the Family and Social Services Administration has announced that no new CCDF vouchers will be issued in 2026. This lack of funding will see tens of thousands of Indiana children go without childcare, which means tens of thousands of Indiana parents going without employment.

In the world of economics, childcare serves as a value-multiplier. For every CCDF voucher given out, which pays us approximately $3 per hour, a person may then go work a job which generates at least $7.25 per hour of economic value. As such, these vouchers serve as incredibly valuable kickstarters of economic growth, both for individual families and for the state economy altogether.

Indiana will not issue new child care vouchers to impoverished families until at least 2027, Family and Social Services Administration leaders said at a quarterly fiscal meeting Wednesday, in the

All parents, please be aware of upcoming cuts to the CCDF Voucher system. The cuts will take effect on October 5th and will see the reimbursement reduced by 10-15%, which could lead to out-of-pocket cost increases of 50-100%.

The State of Indiana currently has an exceptionally long waitlist for CCDF vouchers, and has made this decision so as to ration what little funding there is.

Child care providers around Indiana will see reimbursement rate cuts of 10-35% as the state’s Family and Social Services Administration tries to close a $225 million funding gap.

Look familiar? Across all different species, social play is an integral part of early childhood. These early experiences in interacting with peers are one of the most important things a daycare can provide, and will help form the underlying psychology behind a child's interactions and relationships for the rest of their lives.
