Jonathan graduated from high school this past May as an honor graduate. Soon after graduation, he reached out to me for help. He had done everything he was “supposed” to do academically, but like so many young people, he had reached graduation without clarity about his next step.
College had been encouraged, but Jonathan didn’t know what he wanted to study, or whether enrolling without a clear direction was the right choice.

Through a personalized experience with CLR’s Arkansas Construction Exposure Academy, Jonathan had the opportunity to discover his strengths, explore career options, and create his Career Action Plan.

Today, Jonathan has a clear career path in the construction industry. He has already started working in the field, and tomorrow he will begin his first day as a student at UALR to earn a bachelor’s degree in construction management.

The university gains another bright, motivated student. The construction industry gains a highly qualified young person ready to learn, work, and grow. Arkansas gains another hardworking young person contributing to our workforce and economy. Most importantly, Jonathan is on his way to achieving his American Dream!

A special thank you to Dr. Hank Bray, Department Chair at UALR Department of Construction Management & Civil and Construction Engineering, and KINCO Constructors for partnering with CLR to create opportunities for young people like Jonathan. It takes education, industry, and workforce partners working together to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity!

We hear the term workforce development everywhere. But I have found myself wondering, has it become a buzzword? Have we become so focused on programs, letter grades, strategies, and numbers that we sometimes forget what it is really all about?

This week, my commitment became even stronger. It is about people finding direction. Recognizing strengths they didn’t know they had. Discovering possibilities they may have never considered. And beginning to believe there is a future worth working toward.

Workforce development isn’t just about filling jobs. It’s about developing people and creating opportunities that can change the trajectory and quality of a person’s life. It’s about building skills, careers, and pathways to the American Dream. And when we get that right, the return is a stronger workforce; industries gain the skilled people they need to grow, communities thrive, and our economy becomes stronger.

I am honored to have been asked to partner in leading the implementation of the UAPTC YouthBuild initiative introducing young people to the ecosystem of opportunity in the construction industry. It is another opportunity to move beyond talking about workforce development and put it into action; developing skills, building careers, strengthening communities, and helping young people build a future they can believe in. Special thanks to all industry partners supporting industry-driven instruction. The unique partnership with Providence Park provides an opportunity to teach young people that their skills can build not only a career, but also stronger communities. This is workforce development at its best!

This week reminded me why this work matters, and why I am so passionate about it!

NEW NAME, SAME VISION, BUILDING WORKFORCE PIPELINES THAT WORK…
When I started this journey, the term consulting seemed to be the perfect fit. I always say “sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know. When we do, we should do better.” I spent 34 years in education, following a traditional education system, striving to follow the directives of change with each season. What I have learned is that workforce development doesn’t need more consulting, it needs more implementation. I am excited to announce that CLR Educational Consulting, LLC will now operate as CLR Integrative Constructors!

While our name has changed, our vision has not. My passion remains the same; to build workforce pipelines for industry, bridge the gap between the classroom and jobsite, empower young people to pursue the American Dream, and strengthen Arkansas’s workforce. For me, that is what education was always meant to accomplish.

At CLR Integrative Constructors, we’re not about traditional consulting, we’re about implementation. Nothing has changed about our mission, but everything about our name now reflects what we actually do.

Congratulations Mason!
One year ago, Mason was preparing for high school graduation. Just two weeks later, he attended CLR’s Arkansas Construction Exposure Academy, where he connected with Weaver Bailey Contractors and discovered a clear vision for his future. Today Mason continues to grow his skills, gain valuable industry experience, and build his future with a company that is leading the way in delivering infrastructure excellence that strengthens and improves our daily lives.
