Students attending Extended School Year at Dodgertown participated in a mock beach clean up and sea creature craft, learning about how volunteers can safely help to remove litter and debris from the beach. The learning continues in SDIRC!

Extended School Year is in full swing! SDIRC students are building on skills they learned during the school year while enjoying creative opportunities in line with the By the Beach theme. This week, students made sand ornaments and ice cream sandwiches, practicing skills like measuring, counting, and reading.

Students participating in the Work Based Learning Experience (WBLE) program were honored with a luncheon at Pelican Landing, one of the community partner work sites supporting the WBLE program. In the words of Christine Ramos, Resident Lifestyle Director, "There are some experiences in life that don't just shape what you do - they shape who you are... these programs are not just about teaching job skills. They are about building confidence, independence, and dignity." We are so proud of our students and excited for the experiences yet to come!

The Exceptional Student Education team hosted a Parent Advisory Council Meeting last Wednesday. Kim Thorne from Project 10, a state discretionary project, presented about transition services and resources for students to prepare for life after high school. Tony Prudenti and students who participate in the Work Based Learning Experience program spoke to the group about the job skills they are learning at their sites and shared their plans for the future. We are so proud of our students!
