Is your child making progress toward his or her IEP goals during the Covid-19 shutdown?
Many students struggle to achieve these goals under normal circumstances in a SDC or RSP setting. What parents and students are facing under these trying times is far from normal. Attempting to achieve these goals via Zoom or Google class is especially challenging. Long distance learning (LDL) is extremely difficult for SPECED students due to teachers and students not prepared to deliver and/or to understand the instruction under the LDL format. Navigating the LDL format can be particularly frustrating for students that need proper prompting and assistance by a trained teacher or instructional aide. Achieving your child's IEP goals are to be adhered to no matter the format the district has adopted and implemented unless modifications have been made to the child's IEP and agreed on by all members of the IEP team. If your child is not progressing and you don't now how to approach this problem please consider an advocate for your child. Please call me as I am available to discuss your child's unique set to circumstances with you. Believe me, you and your child are not the only ones experiencing this educational challenge.
