The six cases are:

Nominative- Subject
Genitive- Possessive
Dative- Indirect object
Accusative- Direct object
Ablative- Prepositions

Latin Tip of the Week: Declensions

Latin groups nouns into groups called "declensions" based on their word endings. The declensions are:

1st (feminine)
2nd (masculine and neuter)
3rd (masculine and neuter)
3rd i-stem (masculine and neuter)
4th (masculine and neuter)
5th (feminine and masculine)

Italian Tip of the Week: Gender and Noun Endings

Italian categorizes nouns based on gender, masculine or feminine. These genders can’t be ignored as adjectives and nouns need to match to form correct sentences. Noun endings are based on gender and number (singular or plural)

Masculine singular: -o
Masculine plural: -i
Feminine singular: -a
Feminine plural: -e

Nouns in the singular ending in “-e” can be either masculine or feminine: la carne (the meat, f), il cane (the dog, m). Both take “-i” in the plural. These need to just be memorized

Italian has a system of definite and indefinite articles. Where in English we only have one for each (the and a/an), Italian has many more based on gender and number

Definite articles:
Il- Masculine singular
Lo- Masculine singular (s or z)
I- Masculine plural
Gli- Masculine plural (s or z)
La- Feminine singular
Le- Feminie plural
L'- Masculine or feminine singular (before vowel)

Indefinite:
Un- Masculine
Uno- Masculine (s or z)
Una- Feminine
Un'- Masculine or feminine (before vowel)

Latin doesn’t have articles, there are no words for “the” or “a/an.” This might throw new learners off unless they studied a language like Russian or Polish, which also don’t use them. Context will help with translations
