Key to 73 Hawthorn Education Foundation Mission: Advocate, promote, and fund ready-to-learn initiatives to ensure the success of the whole child; every one, every day across District 73.

Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the Key to 73 Hawthorn Education Foundation is to solicit, manage and distribute supplemental funds for educational purposes in program areas that may not be funded by the District. Funding is supplemental and does not replace or alter use of tax-based revenue. Donations are received from individuals, corporations and other foundations to fund educational prog

rams and projects that are in alignment with the school district’s strategic plan and to create an Endowment Fund. Programs will be funded from donations as well as a percent of the Endowment Fund.

A HUGE thank you to the Cougar Athletic Boosters, Vernon Hills Athletics — Tackle Football, Flag Football, Cheer & Dance — and Vernon Hills Sports Club for hosting a donation drive during Meet the Cougars Night!

Community partners make a BIG difference!

A huge thank you to Meadows Family Dentistry for their incredibly generous $5,000 donation in support of Hawthorn students and families!

Our mission to ensure every student walks into the classroom ready to learn resonated with their team. They understand that being ready to learn means supporting the whole child, including recognizing the important role dental health can play in a student’s comfort, confidence and overall well-being.

Tonight was a proud moment for the Key to 73 Foundation! 💙

At this evening’s Hawthorn School District 73 Board of Education meeting, our new Foundation President, Angela Maki, presented a $30,000 check to support The Nest and the important work it does for Hawthorn students and families throughout the school year.

We’ve already seen that impact in action. Just last week, The Nest helped provide more than 250 students with backpacks and school supplies, along with access to haircuts and groceries, all to help students begin the year feeling prepared, confident and ready to learn.

Every donation, fundraiser and community partnership helps make this possible. This is your generosity at work, Hawthorn! 🦅💙

Our Back-to-School celebration was a FULL day of showing up for our families!

During the day:
✅️ 250+ students received backpacks + school supplies🎒
✅ ️FREE haircuts thanks to Brother’s Barbershop & Lake County Tech Campus Cosmetology💈
✅️ Families stocked up at The Nest with food + household essentials🛒

Then came the Back-to-School Bash!
✅ Hundreds of families joined us🫱🏻‍🫲🏼
✅ 30+ community partners shared resources + services 🎉
✅ Music, activities + family fun 🎧
✅ An AMAZING performance by the Jesse White Tumblers 🤸🔥

This is what your support makes possible.

Because of the generosity of our community, earlier this afternoon, students received free back-to-school haircuts through an incredible partnership with Brothers Barber Shop #2 and the Tech Campus.

Please remember, when you donate to The Nest (the Hawthorn Food Pantry), attend a Key to 73 fundraiser, or support our mission in any way, you're doing more than making a donation, you're investing directly in Hawthorn students!! For privacy reasons, we only share the stories we have permission to tell, but this is just one example of the countless ways your generosity, combined with the tireless work of Hawthorn School District 73 Family Liaison Sol Cabachuela, helps remove barriers and ensure students walk into school feeling confident, cared for, and ready to learn.

Every backpack, notebook, pack of crayons, and donation makes a difference. 💙💛
