Cecilia E. Johnston, JD College Applications Educator
My name is Cecilia Johnston. I am a mother of three, a retired attorney, a police officer's wife and an active parent volunteer in my local school district. For many years, I have volunteered in the College and Career Center at my children's high school and have seen first hand how complicated and crazy college admissions, scholarships and financial aid can be for families.
The landscape of college admissions has changed drastically in the past few years with the severe budget cuts to our state institutions of higher education. College strategies that worked even a few years ago aren't getting students into colleges that are the right fit for them. Having gone through this process three times with my own children (my niece, Marla, my daughter, Maddie and my son, Colin) and having personally felt the overwhelming confusion and worry that it entails---with the encouragement of school staff and families--I decided to do what I could to bring the knowledge I have accumulated to the families in my community and assist them through the process. I earned a College Admissions Counseling Certificate through UCLA Extension and I am a member of WACAC (Western Association for College Admission Counseling), the regional affiliate of NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling.
