USA YOUTH Debates INC.

USA YOUTH Debates INC. Our group is dedicated to critical thinking, applying language skills, learning about foreign affairs and building friendships between countries.

We look forward to posting debate topics, photos, ideas and descriptions of upcoming activities in Morocco, March 29-April 4 in Casablanca and Rabat. We anticipate teams from Morocco, USA, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania. Six countries and more than 100 debaters in a very interactive debate format originated in Caen. Over the next few months, we look forward to sharing updates and learning

new ideas about the region and it's remarkable people. The debates will be in English, Arabic and French with the USA team including all three languages. It is remarkable after three trips to Tunisia and one to Morocco to see the activity of debate flourishing as an academic sport. Not only are secondary schools and colleges/universities participating, NGO debating clubs are springing up all over North Africa and parts of the Middle East. But it is much more than just competition. It empowers people to do their best in a way that changes lives and shapes careers.

Fifteen years ago this month we established USA Youth Debates. If we go another 15 years I would be 80. Not sure we'll go that long but it will be enjoyable to try!

We are working right now on two projects:

1. The Second USA-MAGHREB Youth Debates for youth in the ages of 18-25.
2. The Jean Monnet Transatlantic Debate Cup with USA, Canada and Europe.

04/05/2014

We have just learned that USA Youth Debates will be matched with the European Youth Parliament for debates, June 4-5 in Caen France; part of the historic 70th D Day ceremonies. The Conference is called "The Freedom and Solidarity Forum" patterned somewhat after events like Aspen, Davos and Doha. In this case, the focus will be on the future of the transatlantic partnership and how the sacrifices made on June 6, 1944 can endure. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and France Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will co-chair the event. France President Hollande will give an address and the next day, he and President Obama along with other world leaders will honor that day in history and we plan to be there just like we were in 2004 for the 60th and 2009 for the 65th. U.S. students in the ages of 18-25 are invited to inquire regarding details and we will stay in touch regarding costs, itinerary, how debates will proceed, etc.

We're so excited about the topics and they come from Libya, Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco, USA and Tunisia. These would be excellent choices to debate anywhere.

After all votes have been counted with all six countries participating, here are the 15 topics for our debates!
