I have only ever felt truly matched in emotional intelligence and maturity twice in my life: With my husband... and my 70 year-old professor. Am I a 70-old grandma trapped in the body of a 25 year-old that looks like 12 year-old? Maybe. 👵🏽🤷🏽♀️

Me: Do you still like me?
Jo: Yeah
Me: Do you still find me interesting?
Jo: Yeah
Me: Why tho
Jo: You have interesting problems
Me: 😐

“Time is not money. If time were money we could borrow it. We could steal it. We could bank it and see our days compounded. We can’t. We can live it. We can use it to do the thing we are here for, or we can waste it. But we can do little else with it because it’s not ours to control. It’s given to us in unspecified measure to wring what we can from it.” - David Duchemin, A Beautiful Anarchy 2014

Got bored so I busted out my old college textbooks and did some digging into some recent impirical scientific research journals so here’s ✨HOW TO MOTIVATE YOUR EMPLOYEES BUZZFEED LISTICLE VERSION✨ *swipe for source:
•
- Job security (the usual)
- Organization’s financial stability (the other usual)
- Organization’s commitment to a “green” workplace (almost like caring about the earth makes you seem more human-friendly?)
- Organization’s commitment to social responsibility (mhmm)
- Organization’s commitment to diverse and inclusive workforce (MMMHHMMMMM)
- Relationship with co-workers (we are social animals that always desire mutual respect especially in 40-hour weeks)
- Teamwork within department (yup)
- Teamwork BETWEEN departments (yup yup)
- Communication BETWEEN departments (YUP YUP YUP)
- Feeling safe in the work environment (safe spaces are research-backed say whut?)
- Overall corporate culture (it’s not just millennial BS, fam.)
- The work itself (I mean existential crisis but w/e)
- Meaningfulness of the job (insert more existential crisis here)
- Variety of work (personal favorite because it’s vastly overlooked)
- Contribution of work to organization’s business goals (aka the anti-assembly line principle, another personal favorite because it’s also vastly overlooked)

In a world filled with red tapes and bureaucracy, the internet is your oyster. 🌱
This is where people learn, improve, and grow without limit. This is where your ideas are most unhindered. This is where you can create with no need for approval.
🌱
So just write it. Record it. Publish it. Share it. Don’t deprive the world of your brilliance just because someone once told you “no”. Turn around and shout to the rooftops. We’re here for it.

At the age of 12, that book taught me so much about the Mexican culture, poverty, and immigration. Opened my eyes to the fact that the immigrant story is one that is shared by many, including myself.

“You reap what you sow”... but a lot of times people just forget that they did sow and now they can reap. As a recruiter/interviewer, I always try to get candidates to think a little deeper.
•
You balanced the accounts for your family? You have some financial familiarity. You recruited for school clubs at club fairs? You have recruiting experience. You spend a lot of time trying to understand social media content? You have marketing familiarity.
•
Mention that s**z. It’s not guaranteed to be the right answer, and some companies are stricter than others. But a lot of times, telling a somewhat relevant story is better than just saying “no, I don’t have any experience”.

I just turned 25, and after 90% of the population got in my face that my Psychology degree is useless, here are my achievements:
•
1. Coordinates Human Resources, Recruitment, Marketing, and communication processes between 4 companies/8 teams.
2. Designs tests and procedures fitted for human behavior and psyche.
3. Consults the Marketing Team with internal and external psychological UX/UI research.
4. Consults the Executive Team after being elected into the team to contribute with my knowledge of optimal effectiveness and efficiencies.
5. Consults Senior Managers and Executives on understanding their teams, candidates, and themselves on a deeper and more profound level.

I take companies to the f o u r t h d i m e n s i o n, fam.

So keep learning. Keep expanding. And don’t let anybody tell you that your degree is useless. (I’m especially talking to you, Philosophy 103 Professor. 😒)
