It has been wonderful documenting our minimalism and wellness journey for the past few years. However, minimalism in the year of #2020 has forced us to choose priorities, and social media just didn't fit anymore.
*
We recognize the distracting tendencies, addictive nature, and honestly too much information that social media creates. We want less, not more, and we want to avoid being influenced by the daily scroll accessed at any moment on our phone.
*
That's why we've decided to delete our social media accounts. You can still follow the blog by subscribing to the blog directly from our website (link in bio).
*
We invite you to think deeply about the distraction that social media causes and choose boundaries wisely. We can live in a social media world, but we don't have to be run by it. Also, it feels great to let social media go! 🥂
*
Thank you for inspiring us to live a simple and high quality life.
Sincerely,
Maria & Sara

P.S. This photo is the latest book I've picked up. So far it's good!

Hobbies
*
During 2020, to keep my spirits up, I have focused on cultivating hobbies, instead of engaging pockets of time on social media, news media, or accumulating more stuff. Also, it helps to just feel a bit creative in an anxious time.
*
For whatever reason, writing, one of my favorite hobbies, has been neglected. I've taken a long break until I feel more inspired. Perhaps 2021 will bring a change in perspective that I need.
*
Instead, I've picked back up the hobby of cooking and baking. It's probably the most important skill to cultivate for my own health and happiness. Plus, we've all been home a lot more this year.
*
What hobbies have you enjoyed in 2020? What hobbies would you like to start?

*Digital Minimalism*
*
In my quest to simplify and embrace I bought a subscription to our local newspaper, much like the slow food movement, and deciding to buy into a local CSA this past spring.
*
Turns out I don't need an app giving me breaking news at any moment in the day. Just like I don't need high fructose and fast food in my diet.
*
I also don't need an algorithm choosing for me, what is important on my "News Feed."
*
What I need is a Sunday and a to digest world and local happenings.
*
Thank you for local investigative journalism.
*
Have you stopped "the scroll" recently on social media? Would love to hear how you get your news, and hopefully it's not through FB or Instagram. 😂

Seems a bit hypocritical to post on social media about a book on digital ...😂 But I'm interested in the topic, and slowly chipping away at my

Entering the holiday season is a great time to take a step back from the incessant information streaming through our phones, tablets, TV's, and any other screens.
*
I usually take the whole month of December off from social media, but it's 2020, and 2020 has been a beast. Perhaps I'll throw in November too?!?
*
How about you? How do you use to maximize your ? I'd love to hear from you in the comments.

A little baking does the soul some good....
*
Lucky for me, I've got the hookup to a lovely little apple tree! We've tried to use every apple we've picked and the rest goes to compost.
*
Hope your Sunday is slow and restful.

*Books*
*
When we are more isolated, more at home, more in need of escape, and more desperate for 2020 and everything that came with it to be over....The answer is more books!
*
How I stole 20 minutes of silence in the midst of this pandemic is a miracle.
*
What have you been reading?
*
This book I found on accident looking for another book. How lucky!

*Self Care*
*
Honestly, I'm the type of person who finally gets to self care after I've exhausted myself completely. I'm working on being better. Noticing the signs of stress before hitting a breaking point.
*
The truth is. This is a hard time. Especially on women with children. I get it. Parents are all feeling it, but I do feel that some tasks default to women. It takes extra effort to rearrange, delegate, and find resources.
*
Friends continue to keep me afloat. I am so grateful. I'm putting together a little care package for some ladies in my life. Have you checked in on your friends?
*
P.S. is a woman owned business local to the PNW. Tanya is a friend who also makes these amazing soaps. Check her out! I think Winter Solstice would go great with a sauna!

Food Waste
*
One of my goals this year was to eliminate food waste for my family. Although I might not meet my goal of total elimination I have learned a lot in the process.
*
One of the best topics I learned about was composting from .pete . If you're local to Vancouver, WA there is a whole course to become a master composter you can take too!
*
If you don't compost, what's stopping you? In the process you can create richer more nutritional soil, decrease your weekly trash, and eliminate food waste being dumped incorrectly in landfills (what a literal waste of nutrition).
*
If you don't know where to start, follow .pete for tips and ways to compost even with a small space.

I recommend this documentary.

There is so much to learn about the foods we eat, how we grow it, and the benefits of biodiversity. You can view it on Netflix.
