Every movement in a traditional form has a purpose.
In this Wudang Jian two-person drill, Sophie and I demonstrate Ji Gim (Pressing Sword), a fundamental application that develops timing, distance, structure, and control. While this sequence looks simple, repeating it builds the coordination and precision needed for more advanced partner work.
We always encourage students to learn the solo movement first. Once the mechanics are understood, adding a partner helps reveal the intent behind the technique and develops skills that cannot be learned through solo practice alone.
Traditional martial arts are about more than memorizing forms—they’re about understanding how and why each movement works.
