๐Ÿ’œ Community Connections Make a Difference! ๐Ÿ’œ

One thing we take great pride in at Sheyenne Valley Area Career & Technology Center is the strong relationships we have with businesses, organizations, alumni, and individuals throughout our community. These partnerships provide our students with opportunities to learn, grow, and see firsthand how the skills they develop can be put to work in the real world.

Our latest Community Appreciation goes out to Bridge City Landscaping & Excavating LLC for lending us their Bobcat & time to help move a big project forward!

As we continue working toward getting our greenhouse fully operational, we recently had a load of aged horse manure delivered. With the help of Bridge City Landscaping & Excavating, we were able to unload the manure and spread it throughout the entire greenhouse, helping us prepare the space for future student projects and hands-on learning opportunities.

There is an extra-special connection to this partnership, too! Owner Blake Stephens is a VCPS Class of 2020 alumnus who took advantage of many of the classes offered here at SVACTC during his high school career to expand his trade skills and prepare for his future.

It is incredibly rewarding to see our alumni grow their skills, build successful businesses, and continue giving back to the community that helped shape them.

Thank you, Blake and Bridge City Landscaping & Excavating, for your generosity and for continuing to make our community better through the services you provide! We appreciate you!

Building skills. Building relationships. Building our community.

๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿ’œMeet Our New Director! ๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿ’œ

Please join us in welcoming Luke Kasowski as the new Director of Sheyenne Valley Area Career & Technology Center!

Luke is no stranger to SVACTC. A Valley City native and member of the VCHS Class of '98, Luke also attended SVACTC in Automotive Technology. His journey through Career & Technical Education eventually led him to a long and successful career in education.

After earning an AAS degree in Powersports Technology from North Dakota State College of Science and a BS degree in Vocational-Technical Education from Valley City State University, Luke gained industry experience working at Cooper Motors, Bayshore, and Polaris Industries. He then spent an impressive 21 years at NDSCS, where he served as an Associate Professor in Powersports Technology, Powersports Program Coordinator, and Department Chair for the Automotive and Powersports Technology programs.

Today, Luke lives on his family farmstead near Buffalo. He has three children, Ryan, Grace, and Reed, and is also a proud grandfather to Hazen. Outside of work, you'll likely find him enjoying his favorite hobbies motorcycling, hunting, and fishing.

Luke's passion for CTE began right here at SVACTC. He credits his former instructor, Jim McFadgen, for introducing him to the Powersports program at NDSCS and inspiring him to pursue a career as an instructor. He was also influenced by seeing the success his parents found through their own CTE educations.

That passion and belief in the power of Career & Technical Education is what ultimately brought Luke back to SVACTC.

As he looks ahead to the 2026-27 school year, Luke says he is most excited about the first week of classes meeting the students, getting to know them, and getting to know the staff.

When asked what he wants parents and community members to know about SVACTC, Luke had a simple but important message:

โ€œWe exist!โ€

SVACTC offers students a wide variety of career pathways and opportunities to develop skills that can benefit them throughout their lives whether they plan to enter the trades or pursue an entirely different career. Luke hopes to continue breaking down the outdated stigma surrounding skilled trades and showcase the many rewarding careers available to today's students.

He also hopes to strengthen SVACTC's relationships with the communities and schools we serve by getting out in the communities meeting with area principals and superintendents, building strong relationships, advocating for our students, and making sure the positive things our students accomplish are recognized.

And his message to the community?

Encourage young people to come see what SVACTC has to offer. With skilled workers in high demand, today's trades offer incredible opportunities, strong earning potential, and rewarding careers.

Luke's favorite piece of advice is one that perfectly reflects the kind of work ethic we hope to instill in our students:

โ€œIf it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.โ€

We are excited to welcome Luke back to where his CTE journey began and look forward to the leadership, experience, and passion he will bring to SVACTC!

Welcome back to SVACTC, Luke! We are excited for this next chapter!
