Happy birthday to our forest school leader - the heart and soul of our program!
Ms. Sarah can hike barefoot up a mountain carrying two kids and a dog, while naming every plant, animal and insect species along the way. She is an encyclopedia of knowledge, the embodiment of strong boundaries with kindness and regulation, and a true lover of learning.
She has an intuitive understanding of children that is rare in this world today. She sees them as whole, capable human beings — not empty vessels to be filled or behaviors to be managed, but people with their own wisdom, instincts, and innate drive to learn.
And somehow, she manages to pour all of this wisdom into our program while doing an absolutely staggering amount of work behind the scenes.
Before our seven-hour forest school day even begins, she's already put in two hours packing and preparing base camp. After it's over, she goes back to base camp to clean up, does the meal prep and lesson planning for the next day, and helps with administrative logistics. And there is so much more invisible labor too lengthy to list here. But I see her! And I know our village does too.
I may hold the container but it would be empty without Ms. Sarah. She fills it with passion, love, and unwavering dedication. There is no one I'd trust more with my children (or yours). And I mean that in terms of both their safety and their education.
When I was dreaming of the perfect teacher for a forest school, Ms. Sarah blew every expectation out of the water. We are so lucky to have her as a founder, visionary, and head guide of Earthsong, so please join me in wishing her a very happy day!
