Discovering our Hearts

Discovering our Hearts Providing kindness to anyone who doesn't received it on a daily basis. Formerly known as Siblings Against He**in.

Discovery our Hearts, a Harm Reduction Project
When my brother passed in August of 2019 from endocarditis, I knew I needed to do something to prevent this from happening to others. I began to do research and volunteer at local harm reduction organizations and decided I needed to start my own project. The lack of resources and education available are so limited and it's something that we as a comm

unity need to do better. In October of 2019 we decided to create our own non-profit organization focused around and dedicated to my brothers. Our goal is to just spread kindness to people who may not receive it on a daily basis. Our plan is to start small and carry supplies and hand them out as we see there is a need and spread general kindness and awareness in the community. Discovering our Hearts is dedicated to Joshua O'Neill Gray (8/6/1982 - 8/29/2019) and Ronald Calvin Crist Jr (08/16/1977 - 06/11/2021).

We have newly adopted a stretch of roadway that means so much to me! The stretch of roadway is about a mile long stretching from right past the Roadrunner Market to a little past Melopomene Road in Corona de Tucson. The stretch is right in front of what used to be the Santa Rita Golf Course, which was ran by my Grandpa (Frank O. Brown). The golf course meant so much to him and this community. It is also located in Corona de Tucson (CDT), which was so influential and important to my big brother (Joshua O. Gray). It’s such an honor to be able to adopt this stretch of roadway. New sign coming soon!!

August 31, 2022 - today is Overdose Awareness Day. Today I ask that we all have a little more compassion and understanding for all that still suffer and remember that every person that uses drugs is someone's brother, sister, daughter, son, mother, father... And, regardless of your opinion as to whether or not addiction is disease, these people are dying and dying at an alarming rate. In 2016 there were 59,000 fatal drug overdoses, that's more than car accidents and gun related deaths and in 2021 there were 100,306 fatal drug overdoses, that’s nearly double. Overdoses are now the leading cause of death for people under the age of 50 and it is 100 percent preventable. Addiction and mental health is something that I've been passionate about for a long time, something I've educated myself on just so I can be more empathetic and understanding, and has become something that is now part of my everyday life. So today, I ask that we all consider all the facts and educate ourselves, our children and our communities. Education is the only way we can prevent this epidemic from continuing. Addiction doesn't discriminate and can happen to anyone.
