YOUR CHILD’S FIRST STEP ISN’T THE PROBLEM…
IT’S WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE IT.

Parents, watch your child the next time they have to suddenly react and accelerate during a game.

Before that first step, what happens?

Do they immediately get their body into position and explode?

Or do they stand tall, shift their weight, take an unnecessary step, lose their balance, or have to reposition their feet before they can go?

THAT is where a lot of athletes lose time.

First-step speed isn’t just about moving the legs faster.

Your child has to be able to quickly organize their body, control their weight, load the ground, reposition when necessary, and then transfer all of that into acceleration.

That’s why we’re training:

➡️ Plate Single-Leg Snap Down — body position and single-leg control

➡️ Plate Stick & Launch — control into explosive projection

➡️ Plate Deficit Sprint Start — loading and driving from an acceleration position

➡️ Plate Switches → Sprint — rapid repositioning followed immediately by acceleration

Think about your child’s sport.

They rarely get to perfectly set their feet before they have to move.

They have to recognize what’s happening, get their body into position and GO.

POSITION → CONTROL → LOAD → REACT & GO.

🔥 That’s what our NEW 30-Day Reactive Speed Program is built around — helping young athletes develop reaction, body control, explosive first-step response, and game-speed acceleration.

Comment REACTIVE and I’ll send you the program information.

YOUR CHILD ISN’T SLOW…

I know how frustrating it can be to watch your child work hard at practice but still look a step behind.

They’re trying. They’re listening to their coach. They’re putting in the effort. But when it’s time to react, close space or get to the ball, that first step just isn’t there yet.

That doesn’t automatically mean your child is slow.

Many young athletes have never been taught how to load their body, push into the ground and project themselves in the direction they need to go.

That’s what these four drills are designed to develop:

1️⃣ Plate Power Drive — horizontal force and projection
2️⃣ Plate Deficit Sprint Start — acceleration position and first-step mechanics
3️⃣ Plate Lateral Pogo → Sprint — reactive contacts into acceleration
4️⃣ Plate Switches → Sprint — rapid foot repositioning into an explosive start

First-step speed is a skill. With the right training and consistent practice, it can improve.

Comment FAST to get ZERO TO FAST, our 30-day first-step speed program designed to help young athletes become quicker, more explosive and more confident in their movement.

Man… 100,000. In just 3 months.

I really had to sit back and think about that for a minute.

When I started posting more of what we do at University of Athletes, my goal was simple: help parents understand what their young athletes actually need to become faster, stronger, more explosive, and more confident.

I never expected this community to grow this fast.

Today we’re at 100,000+ on Facebook and 54,000+ on Instagram.

But those numbers represent real people. Parents trying to help their kids. Coaches trying to become better coaches. And young athletes putting in the work every day.

So I just want to say THANK YOU.

What would happen if your child spent the next 30 days training how to CUT, REDIRECT & EXPLODE?

Parents, agility isn’t just having “quick feet.”

Watch your athlete during a game. Can they plant and control their body? Change direction without wasting steps? Push out of a cut and accelerate into the next play?

That’s what we’re developing with these 4 Plate drills:

1️⃣ Plate Lateral Jab Step — load + push
2️⃣ Plate Jump Cuts — lateral movement + cutting
3️⃣ Plate Stick & Launch — control + explosive redirection
4️⃣ Plate Crossover Break → Redirect — crossover movement + re-acceleration

JAB → CUT → REDIRECT → ATTACK

The goal isn’t to collect more drills. The goal is to put the right exercises together in a progression that develops a better athlete.

⚡ UOA PLATE SPEED SYSTEM™ — EXERCISE OF THE DAY #10

PLATE HOP → LATERAL BOUND

Being explosive laterally requires more than just jumping side to side.

Your athlete needs to be able to react quickly off the ground, control one leg, load the hip, and produce enough force to move their body explosively in the opposite direction.

That’s what we’re developing with the Plate Hop → Lateral Bound.

🏆 It builds reactive ankles, single-leg power, lateral explosiveness, hip stability, force absorption, body control, and stronger change-of-direction ability.

🎤 “HOP! LOAD! PUSH! BBOUND!

Stay quick off the ground. Chest big. Head up. Load the hip and push the ground away.

⚡ REACT → LOAD → PUSH → EXPLODE

Your child sees the play happening… but why does it take them so many steps to actually GET GOING?

Parents, sometimes the problem isn’t how fast your child can sprint.

It’s the transition before the sprint.

Can they quickly organize their feet? Switch their hips? Get into a powerful position? Put force into the ground and accelerate without wasting steps?

That’s what we’re developing:

1️⃣ Plate Split-Stance Switch → Stick — position + control
2️⃣ Plate Rhythm Hip Switches — rhythm + hip switching
3️⃣ Plate Pogo Switches — reactive contacts + rapid switching
4️⃣ Plate Power Drive — force + projection
5️⃣ Plate Switches → Sprint — transfer into acceleration

POSITION → SWITCH → REACT → DRIVE → GO

We’re not just trying to make their feet move faster. We’re teaching them to transition into speed more efficiently.

Fast feet don’t mean much if your athlete can’t control their body.

That’s why I like Plate Jack Hammers Alt. Stick.

The Jack Hammers create quick, reactive ground contacts, but when the athlete has to suddenly STICK on one leg, everything changes.

Now they have to control the ankle, knee and hip, absorb force, maintain balance and stabilize their body.

That ability matters when athletes are accelerating, cutting, stopping and changing direction during competition.

We’re teaching them to:

REACT → SWITCH → STICK

Speed is important. Being able to control that speed is what makes it usable.

YOUR CHILD LOOKS SLOW & HEAVY-FOOTED… They’re Missing These 4 Reactive First-Step Drills.

Let’s fix that!

Comment FAST and I’ll send you details on the ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT BUNDLE SYSTEM so you can start building their speed, athleticism, and confidence.

YOUR CHILD LOOKS SLOW & HEAVY-FOOTED… They’re Missing These 4 Reactive First-Step Drills.

Parents, sometimes the hardest part isn’t watching your child lose.

It’s watching them work so hard and still struggle to keep up.

You see them going to practice.

You see them putting in the effort.

You see how badly they want to get better.

But then game day comes…

And they’re still a step late.

Another athlete gets there first.

Another athlete creates the separation.

And eventually your child starts asking:

“Why am I not as fast as them?”

That’s the part that gets me.

Because sometimes that kid doesn’t need somebody telling them to TRY HARDER.

They’re already trying.

They need somebody to show them WHAT to train.

That’s why we’re using:

1️⃣ Pogos — reactive ankle strength and quick ground contacts
2️⃣ Single-Leg Lateral Pogos — single-leg control and lateral reactivity
3️⃣ Split-Stance Jumps — force production and landing control
4️⃣ Pogo Switches → Sprint — transferring those qualities into acceleration

REACT → CONTROL → PRODUCE FORCE → TRANSFER TO SPEED

Parents, don’t underestimate what happens when a young athlete finally starts feeling their hard work show up on the field or court.

They don’t just move differently.

They start believing differently.

🔥 If you’re ready to stop guessing what your athlete should be training, comment FAST and I’ll send you the details on the ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT BUNDLE SYSTEM—a complete training system designed to help develop the athlete, not just run them through drills.

POV: Your child isn’t SLOW… They’re popping UP on their first step instead of pushing OUT.

This is something I see all the time with young athletes.

They take that first step and immediately stand their body up.

The problem is, acceleration requires your athlete to create force back into the ground so their body can project forward.

That’s why I like these 5 drills:

1️⃣ Snap Down → Sprint
2️⃣ Jump Back → Sprint
3️⃣ Broad Jump → Sprint
4️⃣ Single-Leg Kneeling → Sprint
5️⃣ Push-Up → Sprint

Each drill puts the athlete in a different starting position, but the goal stays the same:

Find the position → Push the ground away → Project forward → Accelerate.

We aren’t telling kids to artificially stay low.

We’re teaching them to PUSH OUT instead of POP UP, then naturally rise as they accelerate.

Train this progression 3X a week for the next 30 days and focus on the quality of those first few steps.
