Announcing our final concert of the 2025-26 school year, taking place on May 18 at the Uvalde High School Harrell Auditorium. "Carry the Light" is dedicated to the memory of the 21 souls lost May 22, 2022 at Robb Elementary, the many souls lost in the Texas Hill Country flooding on July 4, 2025, and all of those who have lost their fight with cancer. Join us for an evening of uplifting and healing music that will inspire you to continue "carrying the light".

Good afternoon: After several delays, Print Haus finally has our MJH Choir T-shirts available for order on their website, at the following link:

https://printhausstore.square.site/product/mjh-choir/PUNPWZZAE2JDW5FO5BDH3APM?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false

The front design is a colorful one made by 8th grader Angelica Mendoza; on the back are listed the names of the kids in the various classes (6th grade versus the 7th/8th grade Varsity class). The actual shirt color will be UCISD maroon instead of black, however.

I would like the students to be wearing these as a uniform for the spring concert if possible though we need everyone's participation to make this a reality. To help with this, the student price is slightly lower than the price for parents (see next paragraph). It is as low as we could talk Print Haus into making it.

This sale is also a partial fundraiser for the MJH Choirs---information on a separate fundraiser will follow in an announcement tomorrow. As such, the price for parents/relatives, if you wish to buy one or more to support your child and the choir as a whole, it is offered at the same price the theater students have been paying for their shirts (19.99).

Please email any questions you have about the shirts. The window for ordering is currently scheduled to close on May 1st.

Greetings and Happy Easter, students and parents. Even though I am still not 100% recovered from the cold that hit me hard and fast Thursday morning, I will be back in school tomorrow. The afterschool junior high rehearsal originally scheduled for March 30 had been rescheduled to tomorrow, April 6, and I still plan to try and hold this rehearsal, though It will have a different structure than previous afterschool rehearsals due to the nature of this concert. Here is the planned schedule:

4:10-4:35. All students, rehearsing Circle of Life 6th graders will be dismissed at 4:35 pm.

4:35-5:10. 7th and 8th grade only on their pieces

Please make a note of it.

Mr. Tilley

Schedule Related to Next Week's Concert:

Good evening!

This announcement contains important information relating to our scheduled February 26 concert (which has been on the choir calendar since early Fall) being held in association with February being Black History Month. This relatively short (~35-40 minutes) concert will also serve as an outreach concert to the greater Uvalde community and will be held at the El Progreso Library located just off of West Main Street. We are pleased to be joined this concert by well-known Uvalde pianist and promoter Toni Hull as accompanist and our own theatre teacher, Krystle Wells, as featured soloist.

As was the case for the period around the Veteran's Day performance, we have a very full rehearsal and performance schedule for next week. This schedule, including dates, times and locations, follows:

Tuesday, February 24: Combined Junior High/Senior High rehearsal , UHS Choir Room, 4:10-5:15pm

Wednesday, February 25: Dress Rehearsal, El Progreso Library, 5:00-6:15 pm

Thursday, February 26: Concert, El Progreso Library, 6:30pm start with student call time either 5:45 or 6:00 pm (This will be decided based on how the Dress Rehearsal goes. If it goes well, it will be a 6:00 pm call time, otherwise 5:45 pm.

As has been the case throughout the year, all of the above events carry summative grades. We simply cannot perform in public if we have missed students haphazardly through the final rehearsal push. All of these dates have been, in one form or another, on our calendar since very early in the year. As per the contract/syllabus distributed at the start of the year (and still available here on this page), requests for excused absences (as defined in that document) should have already been forwarded to me by your students. In case there is a serious conflict that has not been brought to my attention, please do so as soon as possible via email ([email protected]).

Concert dress will be less formal than for the Winter/Christmas concert. Acceptable attire includes maroon shirts (of any type as long as they either have school logos/lettering or are plain maroon), presentable jeans (ABSOLUTELY no holes in the jeans) and presentable closed-toe shoes or sneakers (no Crocs, no sandals or other open-toe shoes permitted).

As was the case for the Winter/Christmas concert, not all students will perform all pieces but all WILL perform the first three pieces and the finale with Ms. Wells, so students will not be permitted to leave the concert venue early. Thank you.

Please join us for our next short (35-40 min) concert at 6:30 pm February 26, given in association with February being Black History Month! All music presented in the concert consists of African-American spirituals. We are pleased to partner with the El Progreso library, Ms. Toni Hull and Ms. Krystle Wells for this concert!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Good Monday afternoon:

Because school will be open tomorrow, January 27, and because temperatures by dismissal time should be around 46-47 degrees, the afterschool rehearsal for all choir students (Junior High and Senior High) will take place as scheduled tomorrow from 4:10-5:15 in the UHS Choir Room. This is an important rehearsal in the preparation for the late February concert that should not be missed; as such, attendance at this rehearsal will carry a participation grade as previously announced to the students.

Thank you.
