The Center is a resource not only for the LGBT community but for the entire University community. Why is the LGBT Resource Center needed?

The mission of the University of Illinois LGBT Resource Center is to foster an environment that is open, safe and inclusive for people of all sexualities and gender identities. Mission Statement and Purpose

The mission of the Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center is to foster an environment that is open, safe and inclusive for people of all sexualities and gender identities. It exists for anyone who is who is interested in learning about LGBT people, issues, and concerns. For the LGBT community, the Center provides support for full inclusion of everyone in the University — including those who experience discrimination or who need support as a member of the le***an, gay, bisexual, or transgender campus community. The campus environment at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign mirrors the larger society in that it reflects and contains homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, and heterosexist attitudes and beliefs which are oppressive and devaluing of LGBT people. The LGBT Resource Center seeks to help in the efforts to address homophobia on the campus and to work to make the environment safe, affirming, and inclusive for all students, faculty, staff, and LGBT students, faculty, and staff in particular. Support Services

The LGBT Resource Center provides a confidential forum for LGBT students, faculty, and staff to discuss the campus climate. The Resource Center works with campus units to increase awareness and affirmation of LGBT people and reduce discrimination and harassment based on gender or sexual orientation. The Resource Center refers LGBT people to appropriate campus and community support services. In addition, it collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to develop programs to celebrate the LGBT presence on the campus by organizing and sponsoring events associated with LGBT Awareness Week and National Coming Out Day. The Educational Role

The LGBT Resource Center collaborates with existing groups on campus to develop programs, workshops, and activities to raise campus awareness about LGBT concerns and to honor the contributions of LGBT people to the campus. The Resource Center maintains a collection of LGBT resource materials (books, videos, magazines, pamphlets, etc.) for use by the University community. It also collects data about the incidences of hate crimes, harassment, heterosexism, and discrimination based on gender orientation. The Referral Role

The center helps LGBT students, staff, and faculty identify existing resources and services on campus and in the community that assist in addressing LGBT issues, problems, and concerns. It helps students find Allies in their various departments of the campus.

Join the GSRC family for a Black Q***r AfroPunk Takeover at BNAACC on April 4th from 6pm-8pm! 💥🧷✊🏿 AfroPunk is a subculture that exists for the purpose of allowing Black people to express themselves freely through acts of rebellion, resistance, and self-determination. We are coming together for the purpose of celebrating Black q***rness at BNAACC and acknowledging the diversity of Black identity. There will be DIY jewelry making, button/pin making, and collage/zine making!

Announcing our Spring Semester clothing drive, in partnership with Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority, Inc. and Women of Color 🛍 Donations will go to the Q-Closet at the GSRC at the end of March! This is a resource that provides free clothing to students seeking gender-affirming and identity-expressive apparel. This spring clothing drive is dedicated to empowering students by ensuring they have access to clothing that allows them to express their true selves with confidence.

👔 Recommended Items: New or gently used professional wear (suits, pants, skirts, coats, jackets, dresses), evening dresses, large size women's shoes and purses as well as any other gently used & clean clothing of all styles and sizes

Quench is a “Lunch on Us” program that focuses on building community, student success and social justice education amongst LGBTQIA+ identified students at the University of Illinois.

The Q-Closet is a safe space where Trans, Q***r and Gender Non-Conforming students can find free clothing and accessories to ease the anxiety and dysphoria they may experience when exploring and/or developing their authentic selves.

Coalition and Community Building with the Cultural/Resource Centers and Q***r RSO's to create more inclusive spaces for q***r students on campus.

The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center is excited to launch the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign LGBTQ+ Alumni email listserv.

The LGBTQ+ Alumni listserv is designed to create and continue a connection between the University of Illinois LGBTQ+ Alumni and the GSRC. Those that sign-up for the listserv will receive the GSRC's InQ***ri Newsletter, updates on the upcoming 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center and upcoming information on the UIUC LGBTQ+ Alumni Association.
