In case you did not know, the story of FDHS (Upper Marlboro) has layers and rich history!

Marlboro Colored High School — later known as Upper Marlboro Colored High School — holds a powerful place in Prince George’s County history as the first public high school established for African American students. Operating from 1923 to 1935, the school was made possible through a community-led fundraising effort spearheaded by Doswell E. Brooks, reflecting the determination and resilience of Black families committed to education despite segregation.

In 1935, the school’s mission continued through the opening of Frederick Douglass High School. Though the original building was later repurposed, a historic marker now stands at the site, honoring its lasting impact on generations of students and the county’s educational legacy.

We got a call from Ms. W, the AMAZING teacher that assembles the yearbooks for Douglass informing us that out new Librarian Mrs. Blaire (formerly known as Ms. Salsbury if you attended James Madison MS) that there were precious photos found in the media center!!!

The vault at Douglass has been raided and we found photos dating back to the 50's! Be on the lookout for more post but we wanted to start with the infamous "donkey basketball" because seeing is believing!
