These are some of the things we have been doing in preschool. We may have a future mechanic one day. Elsa is enjoying the seeds from the trees. Building forts may lead to work in engineering one day.
Do you remember the author Beverly Cleary & her characters Ramona & Howie? Those characters "made bricks" at their "brick factory" by smashing them. My little ones at preschool are learning about cause & effect by pounding chalk. The gloves are evidence of keeping their hands warm while they worked.

The preschool children have been working hard to count to 10 in English & Spanish. They are also learning about patterns and counting & days of the week as we do Calendar time. They are also working on phonetic awareness through the use of Zoo-Phonics. There is a physical movement & animal to learn the sound of each letter. I love how much the children are learning!!

We are enjoying the warmer weather. The kids are serving up some fun pretend meals. 🤗
I was blessed to be introduced to Spanish through hearing Spanish phrases and attending Spanish classes as a child. As I was able to enroll in Spanish classes in Jr. high and High School, I was able to “put together the pieces” of the Spanish Language. Studying Spanish has opened doors for me that wouldn’t have been open otherwise. I was able to spend a month in Mexico after I graduated from High School. This opportunity was difficult and very valuable for me. I was able to find out that I could communicate with others in Spanish. I was able to appreciate another culture and learn about things I didn’t know before. I studied Spanish in College at Brigham Young University. I was able to expand my ability to learn through phonetic classes, literature classes and history classes of Spanish countries. I even found a connection with the man who would become my husband because we both spoke Spanish. Because of the background my husband and I have, we have been able to share phrases and stories and songs with our 4 children as they have grown up. We watch in amazement as they “put the puzzle pieces together” in their Spanish classes in High School.
I have been able to continue to develop my Spanish abilities by working with children in our community of Rifle. I was a parent volunteer for 13 years in the local schools. It was not uncommon for a Spanish only speaker to be in my child’s class. During these first few days I was able to help the Spanish only speaker be able to feel calm and comfortable in this new setting. For the past 4 years I have also been able to work with children and families who are Spanish only speakers when they come to school. I have been able to help children to understand the routine and rules of the classroom by speaking Spanish to the children. I have interpreted in Spanish many conferences for families with children with special needs. This ability has helped create a connection between the family and the school.
In order to help build this connection between home and school, I envision children coming to school with a working knowledge of two languages: Spanish and English.
Please consider enrolling your child in Academy de las Estrellas: a Dual Language Preschool. Together we can help create a bridge and connection in the community in both languages: Spanish and English.
