In a time when we often hear the worst about school violence, this is a reminder of what courage and leadership truly look like.

At a school in Pauls Valley, Principal Kirk Moore didn’t hesitate when faced with an armed former student planning a Columbine-style attack. He took immediate action—tackling the suspect and stopping the threat.

He was shot in the leg in the process.

But because of his actions, no students or staff were harmed.

This is what it means to put others before yourself. This is what real leadership looks like under pressure.

As someone who studies and trains for active threat response, this reinforces a critical truth: seconds matter, and decisive action saves lives.

Prayers for his recovery, and deep respect for a man who stepped forward when it mattered most.

Let us all show up for those still fighting the war within.

Let us all show them we won’t let their struggles consume them.

WHY WE RUCK

We ruck to connect with our heroes.
Those who served. Those who sacrificed. Those who never made it home.

We ruck to embrace just a small piece of the pain and discomfort they carried—
not because we have to… but because they did.

We ruck to suffer together.
To remind one another that no one is alone.
That we are here. That we care. That we’re willing to carry the weight with you—if you would only let us.

And the truth is—
you don’t need to carry a heavy pack to be part of this.

You just have to show up.

Walk what you can.
Stand with us.
Be present.
Show your support.

Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…
is simply not let someone walk alone.

We ruck for the conversations that need to happen.
For the brothers and sisters still fighting battles no one can see.
For the families who carry loss every single day.

This isn’t just miles.
This is purpose.
This is connection.
This is how we honor them.

Building a safer environment for our students and educators is a responsibility we take very seriously. On January 5th, we had the distinct honor of training over 120 administrators and teachers from five incredible schools: St. Margaret Mary (Algonquin), SS. Peter and Paul (Cary), Montini (McHenry), St. John the Baptist (Johnsburg), and St. Mary (Woodstock).

It was our absolute pleasure to work with such dedicated professionals. We are humbled by the commitment these educators showed, stepping well outside their comfort zones to engage in intense, "as real as it gets" scenarios—from tactical medical response and wound packing to EBRS (Escape, Barricade, Resist, Survive) strategies.

While we are proud to empower these teams with the knowledge and options they need to keep their students safe, we also deeply understand the gravity of this training. We recognize that this is a skillset every educator hopes they never have to use, and that weight is never lost on us.

Thank you to Principal Brenna O’Hearn and all the participating schools for trusting Beacon Training Group with your safety mission. We are inspired by your dedication to your students and your communities.
