Friday, October 11, was a special day for SJU Soccer and Haws Field. Noel Quinn was head coach for the Saint John’s, while Tudor Flintham was head coach of Gustavus Adolphus. Each coach - Quinn from Belfast, Northern Ireland and Flintham from Norwich, England - were international players for the Johnnies. Quinn was in the starting 11 on the 2000 SJU team when he was an exchange student here in 2000-01. Flintham was a 4-year starter and a 2005 All-MIAC player for the Johnnies.
This marked a MIAC game with two former SJU soccer stars serving as head coaches of competing teams and playing on the pitch named in honor of their head coach at SJU, Pat Haws.
