Wildcats Open Season with Third-Place Finish at Oscoda Invitational

The Alpena Wildcats opened their swim season with a strong showing at the Oscoda Invitational, competing against a talented group that included DeWitt, South Lyon, Ogemaw Heights and host Oscoda. In their first meet of the season, the Wildcats battled throughout the day and earned an impressive third-place overall finish. All swimmers either earned points or had a PR.
With the season just getting underway, the invitational provided Alpena with an early opportunity to see where the team stands and to put its training to the test against quality competition. The Wildcats rose to the challenge, turning in solid performances across the pool and showing determination from the first event through the final races.

Alpena’s swimmers demonstrated depth, versatility and a competitive spirit as they contributed valuable points throughout the meet. The team also used the opportunity to establish early-season times, gain race experience and begin building momentum for the season ahead.

While DeWitt and South Lyon provided tough competition, the Wildcats remained focused on their own races and continued to compete hard against every team. Alpena’s third-place finish was a positive start and gave the team confidence as it continues to develop throughout the season. We had the chance to see our swimmers compete, establish some early-season times and learn where we can improve. Finishing third against a strong group of teams is something the girls should feel proud of.

The Wildcats will look to build on their opening performance as they return to practice and prepare for the next challenge away against Ga***rd on Tuesday the 25th at 6pm. With a strong foundation in place and plenty of room to grow, Alpena is looking forward to an exciting season.

Team Results:

DeWitt 474.50
South Lyon 315
Alpena 237
Ogemaw Heights 137
Oscoda 85.50
