🧊 has no place in our schools. Public schools should be places of safety, not surveillance and fear.
Thank you for organizing such a powerful protest today bringing our community together in solidarity. We all have a role to protect each other, and our educators protect students every single day.

Across our city, Seattle Teacher Residency alumni are embedded within the school community of 87% of SPS Title I schools. These schools are vibrant learning communities rich with culture, resilience, possibility, AND great educators!
STR educators bring their talent, care and commitment to schools that serve students who may be further from opportunities. This map is not an accident, it is both the reflection of:
✏️ The current reality we face from historical policies that were harmful, rooted in racism and structurally designed to stunt BIPOC, poor and working class families.
✏️ A shared belief that we play an important step in ensuring every student has excellent teachers and schools to overcome these systemic barriers to thrive together.

New Staff!? 🤭 Help us in welcoming Dr. Rachel Oppenheim as the new Senior Director of the Seattle Teacher Residency!
She began her career in education as a public school teacher in inclusive and multilingual classrooms in Los Angeles and New Orleans and most recently worked at the Equity in Education Center.
For decades, Rachel has been working alongside incarcerated and systems-impacted people, first at Rikers Island in New York City and now in Washington with RECLAIM (formerly University Beyond Bars). Her experiences in jails and prisons have shaped her perspective on our country’s carceral and educational systems and have bolstered her commitment to disrupting and transforming those systems.
