Weldon Elementary School was established in 1902 as Clovis Grammar School. Weldon School in 1949. The building was home to 8 classrooms. Permanent additions were made in 1957. The school has since grown, increasing to 31 permanent and temporary classrooms in 1999. Weldon was named after a long time Clovis resident, Luther E. Born in1869, Luther Weldon's family moved from Texas to Fresno, Californi

a. In 1895, L.E. Weldon moved to Clovis to act as engineer for a flourmill established by the Cates family. Later he was a night engineer for the Fresno Flume and Lumber Company. He then worked for the Copper King Mining Company for 9 years as a construction and shipping superintendent. When the mine closed he returned to Clovis and went into the building business. In 1914, Mr. Weldon bought the Clovis Drayage Company from the widow of James Turner and changed the name to Clovis Dray and Ice Company. This is the oldest business in Clovis. Throughout his life, Mr. Weldon was involved in his community and its progress. His served as City Clerk of Clovis from 1912 to 1920. He also served as a member of the City Council and was Mayor of Clovis for 8 1/2 years. He served as Mayor until his death October 24, 1948. For many years he was also a trustee of the Clovis Grammar School and for more than 20 years, was a member of the Clovis High School Board of Trustees. He was President of the Board for a number of years and served as the President of the County Association of School Trustees. He believed that students should be given the best education, and worked to improve and raise the standard of Clovis schools. It was through his efforts that the high school took over part of the horse show grounds to enlarge the high school, which became Clark Intermediate School in 1969. In April 1994, the library media center moved into a new building. At that time, our new facility was dedicated to Mr. Ga***rd Ensign, in honor of 27 years of teaching at Weldon Elementary School. Our library is open during school hours for our students. Weldon's LMC operates with a fixed schedule. This means each class has a scheduled weekly time they visit. Students are allowed to visit anytime during school hours as long as they have a pass from their teacher. The ELMC was recently remodeled during the 2015/2016 School Year. It reopened in February 2016 with a more spacious, modern lay out. Social Media Policy:

Staff or students who post prohibited content shall be subject to discipline in accordance with District policies and administrative regulations.”

📚 Speaking of reading…

Thanks to a grant our librarian, Mrs. Palomares, received from Dollar General . Mrs. Castro was able to provide every K–5 student with a summer reading folder and new books to enjoy over the break!

The folder includes:
📖 Reading Bingo activities
📖 A reading log
📖 Opportunities to earn prizes from local businesses for reading

Students who read 10 books or 1,000 pages over the summer and return their completed reading log in August will have a special prize waiting for them from Mrs. Castro!

We hope our Warriors enjoy a summer filled with great books, exciting adventures, and lots of reading! ❤️🖤📚

🎉📚 Congratulations to our AR Gift Card Winners! 📚🎉
There was one winner per grade level in grades 2–6 for each of the following categories:
🏅 AR Medallion Raffle Winner — Students who earned an AR Medallion were entered into a raffle for a $20 Target Gift Card.
📚 Most AR Points for the School Year — Students with the highest number of AR points earned in their grade level received a $25 Target Gift Card.
We are so proud of all of our readers and the hard work they put into reaching their reading goals this year. Keep turning those pages and exploring new adventures through books!

Yesterday we celebrated our amazing 6th graders as they closed one chapter and prepared to begin another. It’s hard to believe how quickly the years have flown by!

This group holds a special place in our hearts—they started their school journey as COVID kindergartners, navigating a school experience unlike any other. Despite the challenges they faced early on, they have shown resilience, determination, and incredible growth.

We are so proud of all they have accomplished during their time at Weldon. They have grown academically, socially, and as leaders, leaving their mark on our campus in so many ways.

As they move on to junior high, we know they will continue to do great things. While we’ll miss seeing their faces on campus each day, we can’t wait to see all they accomplish in the years ahead.

Once a Warrior, always a Warrior. ❤️🖤 Congratulations, Class of 2032! We are proud of you! 🎉

Yesterday, we said bon voyage to two well-known and beloved faces on our campus. ❤️🖤

Mr. Wolfgang is heading to Clovis South, and Mrs. Alkire is hanging up her lanyard for good as she enters retirement after an incredible career in education.

Both have made a lasting impact on our students, staff, and school community, and their presence will be greatly missed. We are grateful for their dedication, leadership, and the countless lives they have touched over the years.

Wishing you both all the best as you begin these exciting new chapters. Once a Warrior, always a Warrior! ❤️🖤

🚲 Congratulations to these two Weldon Warriors, the winners of our End of the Year Raffle! 🎉

A huge thank you to the Clovis Kiwanis Club for their generous donation of these bikes. This special tradition was started by the late Sam Sandoval, whose passion for supporting students continues to make an impact on our community.

Today, his legacy lives on through his children, who raise funds each year to provide bikes for students. What an amazing way to celebrate dedication and responsibility

Today, our 2025–2026 yearbook was dedicated to Mrs. Alkire! What a fitting way to celebrate an incredible career as she prepares to retire in just a few short days.

Mrs. Alkire’s three of her four children were able to join her for this special occasion, and all of her children are proud former Weldon Warriors. The Alkire name is woven into the fabric of our campus and has left a lasting legacy. You may have even noticed the baseball diamond named in honor of her late husband, John Alkire who also taught at Weldon.

Mrs. Alkire, we wish you all the best in this next chapter of life. While we will miss seeing you on campus, your impact will live on through the countless students you have taught, encouraged, and inspired over the years. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to our Weldon family.
