Richmond’s only Chess + STEAM Center, bringing chess, creativity, technology, learning, and community together under one roof.

From in-person chess clubs and competitive training to STEAM classes, camps, and special events, Discovery Center creates opportunities for children, teens, adults, and seniors to keep learning, connecting, and discovering.

Spend the day at Discovery Day Camp at Stony Point—with chess, STEAM challenges, creative projects, games and self-selected Discovery Zones.

Whether they’re making their very first moves or ready to build on the skills they already have, Atomic Knights Chess Club gives young players a place to learn, think, play, and grow.

With two levels, kids can start where they are and keep building from there:

For players ready to strengthen their skills and take their game further.

SMILE Chess™ Preview Day is coming to Discovery Center at Stony Point this Tuesday!

This interactive experience introduces young learners and their caregivers to the world of SMILE Chess™, an early childhood chess program built around storytelling, movement, imagination, language, and engagement.

Designed especially for ages 3–5, Preview Day gives families an opportunity to explore how chess can support confidence, focus, communication, listening skills, creativity, and early problem-solving in a warm, encouraging environment.

This is not a competitive chess class. It is a playful, discovery-centered introduction designed to help children feel comfortable, engaged, and excited about learning.
