Three geodes. Three surprises. And one VERY happy little Wanderer. 🥹💎✨

Orion came in ready to put our geode breaking machine to work—and apparently one geode was definitely not going to be enough. 😂

He broke open THREE different geodes, and we got to watch that wonderful progression from serious concentration… to curiosity… to:

“WHOA, THAT WAS AWESOME!” 🤩

That right there is one of our favorite parts of breaking geodes with you. You never really know what’s hiding inside until that moment when the stone finally opens and an entire little world that has been sealed away for ages is suddenly sitting in front of you.

And getting to experience that moment three times? Even better. 💛

Sometimes you have to get ridiculously close to appreciate just how wild minerals really are. 🔬✨

Tiny crystals growing on crystals.
Perfect little geometric faces.
Metallic textures.
Bubbles, blades, points, plates and formations that look more like alien landscapes than rocks.

These are macro shots from some of the specimens we’ve been staring at lately—and somehow the closer you get, the more fascinating they become.

He had exactly ONE request for his geode…

✨ SHINY. ✨

Not amethyst.
Not calcite.
Not some impossibly rare mystery mineral.

Just something shiny. 😂

So naturally, everyone gathered around the geode breaker to find out whether this rock was going to cooperate.

And after all that anticipation…

THE GEODE UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. 🤩✨

There’s something we love about geode breaking that never gets old. You can study the outside, make your predictions and choose the one that “feels right”…

…but until that geode opens, nobody really knows what has been hiding inside.

And this one definitely had some sparkle waiting for its new owner.

There is something so fun about watching the exact second someone realizes they chose a REALLY good geode. 🥹✨

This Wanderer broke open one of our Las Choyas coconut geodes from Mexico, and the reaction says almost everything.

First came that beautiful sparkling druzy interior.

Then we looked a little closer…

CALCITE. 😍

That inclusion tucked inside made an already beautiful geode even more special.

Every Las Choyas geode is its own little geological mystery, and this is exactly why we never get tired of opening them.

There are the parts of the mall everyone sees…

…and then there are the slightly creepy hidden hallways behind everything. 👀😂

Tony and I were walking through one of them when we spotted our friend Luciano coming toward us.

Naturally, we said hello.

We did not anticipate the musical performance that followed. 🎶😂

These silly little moments and the friendships we’ve made since opening Wandering Stones are becoming some of our favorite parts of being at Kitsap Mall.

These two wanderers came into Wandering Stones and decided they were each going to choose their own Moroccan geode and experience the fun of breaking them open together.

Same geode bin.

Two different choices.

Two very different reveals.

And some pretty adorable reactions along the way. 😂

Part of what makes breaking a geode so much fun is that the outside can only tell you so much. Until those halves separate, the inside is still a mystery.

Apparently opening a new store can make you forget you have an entire shipment of incredible minerals sitting in the lapidary. 😂

I was walking through our storage area and rediscovered a box that had somehow gotten buried in all the hustle and bustle of opening Wandering Stones.

And OH. MY. GOODNESS.

These are pink and red chalcedony specimens from Morocco, and no two seem to have gotten the same geological memo.

We have:

✨ Delicate stalactite formations
✨ Rosette-like growths
✨ Rounded botryoidal formations
✨ Sparkling druzy surfaces
✨ Cavities lined with tiny crystals
✨ And some wonderfully strange formations that are almost impossible not to stare into

That is one of my favorite things about minerals: the chemistry may give nature a set of ingredients, but nature still seems determined to improvise.

And yes… by the end of this video I apparently performed a geological colonoscopy. 😂🤦‍♀️

Come with me — literally inside our Fine Mineral cabinet. 💎✨

I wanted to give you an up-close look at two absolutely glorious specimens and make you choose:

Which one is your favorite — #1 or #2?

Both feature incredible chalcedony stalactite formations with soft pink-to-peach stilbite resting over botryoidal, druzy blue chalcedony… but they each have completely different personalities.

One feels a little more architectural and dramatic.

The other feels like a tiny mineral dreamscape.

And I genuinely can’t decide. 😍

So naturally, I’m making all of you decide for me.

But there was also a little experiment happening…

After I finished showing off the specimens, I left my phone inside the mineral cabinet to see what would happen when our Rock Stars walked by and discovered the beautiful minerals I had just placed there.

Did they notice the minerals?

Maybe.

Did they notice the CAMERA staring at them from inside the case?

Oh, absolutely. 😂

Their reactions gave me a good laugh — and hopefully you’ll enjoy them too.
