*You Are Not Alone*
Meet Ducky.
This is Ducky when he first came to our trainer, Amanda.
He came off a transport bus from Oklahoma, shut down and terrified. He'd been abused. His previous owners had cut part of his leg off. He had every reason in the world not to trust a single human being — and he didn't. It took Amanda a full hour in that parking lot just to get him safely into her car. He was scared of everything — new situations, new people, the ordinary chaos of just being alive. So shy, so closed off. Like he'd learned that the world wasn't safe, and he had every reason to believe it.
She's had him ever since.
And now? Now this boy demands his first breakfast, then his *second* breakfast — because apparently his kibble is simply an appetizer before he gets to share Amanda's scrambled eggs. He has strong opinions about his morning snuggle session. Mandatory. Non-negotiable. On work days she literally has to build it into her schedule, because he will not be rushed.
He cobs his crinkle toys. He gets the zoomies, collapses, and is immediately asleep. He is, in every possible sense of the word, a house hippo.
He is the goofiest, silliest, most loving boy — who just wants to be close to his people. Which, if you know what he came from, is nothing short of extraordinary.
He didn't need a perfect past. He just needed someone to wait in that parking lot with him.
So did yours.
If you're in the thick of it right now with a fearful, reactive, or just plain complicated dog — we want you to know that you are not alone. The journey isn't always linear, it isn't always pretty, and some days it feels like that parking lot is never going to end. But it can. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.
We're here. Schedule a discovery call today and let's talk about your dog's story.

Not all toys are created equal, and some of the most popular ones on store shelves are worth a second look. 🚨
A few we recommend skipping:
🐾 Rope toys (unsupervised) — fibers can unravel and cause serious intestinal blockages.
🐾 Rawhide chews — chunks break off easily and can become choking hazards.
🐾 Squeaky toys with removable parts — once that squeaker is out, it's a swallowing risk.
🐾 Tennis balls (for power chewers) — the abrasive fuzz can wear down tooth enamel over time.
When in doubt, supervise playtime and choose toys sized appropriately for your dog. Your Padfoot coach is always happy to talk through safe enrichment options! 💜
Drop your pup's favorite safe toy in the comments — we'd love to hear! 🐶

🚨 Is your home dog-safe?
Some of the most dangerous things for our dogs are also the most common household items — and many pet parents are surprised by what's on the list. Foods like grapes, raisins, xylitol (found in sugar-free gum and peanut butter), onions, and chocolate can be seriously toxic, even in small amounts. Around the house, things like certain cleaning products, medications (including over-the-counter pain relievers), and even some popular houseplants — pothos, sago palm, and lilies among them — can pose a real risk. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) is available 24/7 and is always worth a call if you're unsure about something your dog got into. A little awareness goes a long way toward keeping our beloved canines safe. 🐾

🐾 Dog of the Week: Ruby!
Meet Ruby — and oh, what a journey this girl has been on. When trainer Amanda first started working with her, simply entering the room was enough to send Ruby into a panic. Full stop, full fear, no exceptions. The kind of scared that breaks your heart a little and makes you want to do whatever it takes to help.
So that is exactly what they did. Slowly, steadily, and entirely on Ruby's terms, Amanda showed her over and over again that the world — and the people in it — could be safe. And Ruby, brave girl that she is, started to believe it.
Fast forward to today: Amanda can give her a bath. A bath! For a fearful, reactive dog, that level of trust and physical closeness is not a small thing — it is enormous. It means Ruby has learned that she is safe, that she is cared for, and that the people around her are worth letting in.
Ruby, you are proof that patience and love can change everything. We are endlessly proud of you. 🐾

🏆 Win of the Week: Nymphadora!
For a girl who takes her time warming up to new people, this week was a really big deal. Nymphadora was reintroduced to our trainer Amanda — and she did not just tolerate it, she genuinely did well. For anyone who knows Nymphadora, you know exactly how significant that is. Trust does not come easily or quickly for her, and that is okay. It makes moments like this one mean so much more.
The work Nymphadora and her family have been putting in is showing up in a big way, and Amanda could not be more proud of how far this girl has come. One introduction at a time, one good experience stacked on top of another — that is how real confidence is built, and Nymphadora is building it beautifully.
We see you, Nymphadora. And we are so, so proud of you. 🐾

🏆 Win of the Week: Lola!
If you have been following Lola's journey, you know that new people have not always been easy for her. Meeting a stranger — especially in the middle of a training session — is exactly the kind of thing that could have sent her into a spiral. But this week, Lola did something that stopped everyone in their tracks.
During her session, Lola was introduced to her new rover sitter for the first time. New person, new energy, no warning. And Lola? She took a breath, took a look, and within almost no time at all she had stopped reacting entirely. Not because she was forced to, not because she had no choice — but because she worked through it and came out the other side. And then, as if to make absolutely sure we all knew how she felt about it, she leaned in for a full hug.
That moment — a dog who once struggled with new people choosing to press her whole body against a stranger and just rest there — is what this work is all about. It does not happen by accident. It happens because Lola has been showing up, doing the hard things, and trusting the process week after week. Her mom has put in the time, held the line on the tough days, and celebrated every small step along the way. And this week, all of that paid off in the most heartwarming way possible.
Lola, you never cease to amaze us. We are so incredibly proud of you. 🐾
