Ontario’s education system stands at a moment of transformation, and with the arrival of Bill 101 this is true more than ever. While Bill 101, Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026 recognizes some of the issues Ontario students are facing, it provides band-aid solutions to deep, recurring issues. OSTA’s Catholic student trustees took part in Friends and Advocates of Catholic Eduction (FACE) Lobby Day at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, meeting with MPPs, OCSTA representatives, and Bishops from across the province. The day was an important opportunity to advocate for Catholic education and reinforce the value of student voice in governance.

Yesterday, student trustees from across Ontario, including representatives from OCDSB, TDSB, and TCDSB joined OSTA-AECO president, Carter Peios in a virtual press conference to share their perspectives on  Bill 33.

Students highlighted how legislation directly impacts their learning environments and emphasized the importance of equitable opportunities and safe schools for all. OSTA-AECO remains committed to amplifying student voices and ensuring their experiences guide decisions that shape education.

We urge legislators to carefully consider student input as they review Bill 33.

Starting November 2nd, until November 8th, we recognize Treaties’ Awareness Week as a time to reflect and acknowledge how Canada formed as a country through negotiations with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities. We encourage students and educators to take meaningful steps to honour this important week.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we take a moment to recognize the ongoing effects of colonialism and the residential school system in Canada. Today, we honour all those who have been affected by colonial systems and processes.
