This MISOL fall trip to Mexico was quite different than the rest, for multiple reasons. The majority of the participants were able to experience Día de Los Mu***os as a deep cultural tradition rooted in ancestral wisdom. This day and the days around it are a symbolic cultural tie to Mexican identity and the returning to home which connects to our intention.
Despite the various challenges that we faced, we are so happy that each one of the participants was able to go back home to reconnect with their land and themselves. We continue to be incredibly happy for our participants that are able to have this life-changing experience. 🇲🇽❤️🌞

Reminiscing on the last day of our Oaxaca MISOL workshops with the amazing artists from
🫶🏽🎉 The artists have work such as murals in Oaxaca and internationally. Thank you so much for teaching us to create our self-portraits and print on t-shirts. ✨

Our self-portraits will be exhibited at Edgewood College on an upcoming exhibit alongside and on Sept 13th at 5pm 🌞

Stories of migration are inextricably tied to food as food is such a key aspect of our cultures. We often grow up in the kitchens of our abuelitas or our own mothers’, tasting and savoring the essence of home. Learning from the legendary felt like being in our grandma’s kitchen.

The richness of the experience of reconnection with our past, our culture, and ourselves was something we will take with us as we bought fresh produce from local vendors, toasted ingredients on wood-fire, grinned the mole on the molcajete and shared many laughs in the kitchen of . 👏🏽🇲🇽

En el huerto de Biidauu donde cultivan plantas como pericón, marush, y muitle para tintes naturales. La cooperativa de textil es intencional en tener una relación con la tierra y tener un impacto positivo. Solo con iniciativas como esta es nuestro impacto como seres humanos consumidores podremos cambiar el lugar en donde estamos colectivamente. We had an amazing natural dye work shop . This incredible co-operative of Zapotec weavers taught about their entire process of natural dyes for that they use for their own creations. The process requires a lot of knowledge and intention. We are super grateful to have learned from folks who carry so much knowledge and wisdom. ✨

We had an incredible pottery workshop with the wonderful 👏🏽💕Everyone learned the imense amount of work that it takes to make pieces as we each created our own. Each part of the process requires a high level of patience, dedication, and creativity.
