Congratulations again to Matt Snitgen, our 2026 Outstanding Support Person of the Year! Matt is a paraprofessional at Athens High School in the MOCI Room. Matt was nominated by Rebecca Roy. Some of the comments in his nomination include:

• What truly makes Matt exceptional is his unwavering belief in his students. He sees potential where others often see limitations.
• Matt’s unwavering positivity, compassion, and work ethic are remarkable.
• He strengthens the learning environment not only through what he does, but through who he is.
• He continuously models and encourages communication in all forms (i.e. through body language, gestures, facial expressions, and AAC devices). He treats every communicative attempt as meaningful and worthy of response, reinforcing the belief that every student has something to say.
• One of his students said – “We have a secret handshake. Mr. S is a great person because he's nice and he makes me feel happy and excited to be at school. He makes me feel safe at school. He's the best.”

TSD & the Board of Education are honored to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers who generously share their time and talents in support of our schools and community each and every day. We are especially grateful for the lasting contributions of some of our most dedicated volunteers whose students will be graduating from TSD this year.

Volunteers are a vital part of the Troy School District, and your continued commitment does not go unnoticed. The care, energy, and support you provide have made a meaningful and lasting impact on our students, staff, and the broader community.

Today was the Middle School Leadership Conference! Planned by the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board, this event gave 100 middle school students the opportunity to build their leadership skills and hear advice from some of our high school leaders about surviving - and thriving - in high school.

Great job, SSAB, and thank you to all of the middle school students who joined us for an amazing day!

Exciting things are ahead at Boulan Park Middle School!

Today, we celebrated the groundbreaking for renovations that will begin at the school this summer. These improvements will help create enhanced learning spaces, updated facilities, and an even stronger environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive for years to come.

Last night at the board meeting, we celebrated several wonderful people in our organization. We are especially proud of our Board of Education student representatives from each high school. Thank you for representing your school with such passion and grace! Congratulations to our graduating representatives - Chloe Gentilini (TCCHS), Sara Graunstadt (Athens), and Isabella Doss (Troy High). 🎓. We look forward to one more year with IAE Representative, Ahyoung Song.

Last night, the Board of Education recognized several of our schools for their character work. Hamilton and Troy Union Elementary Schools were recognized as National Schools of Character. Hamilton and Troy Union are two of 72 schools across the country to receive this important distinction from Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character in education. The program recognized Hamilton and Troy Union as schools that have demonstrated their use of character development to drive a positive impact on academics, student behavior, and cultural climate.

The Board also honored Schroeder, Troy Union Elementary Schools, and Boulan Park Middle School for being recognized as State Schools of Character.

Additionally, the Board recognized Wattles and Barnard Elementary Schools as Honorable Mention Schools of Character.
The journey to becoming a School of Character is comprehensive and involves each school demonstrating how it embeds key characteristics into its everyday work. This framework includes creating a caring school community where everyone feels a sense of belonging, providing students with opportunities to practice and reflect on their character strengths, and engaging families and communities as partners in the school's character initiative.

Congratulations to all of our wonderful schools. We are very proud of the time, effort, and dedication you have put into making your school the kind of learning environment where students feel included, encouraged, and nurtured to succeed.

We are incredibly proud to announce that six Troy Schools seniors have been named National Merit Scholars! They are Vihaan Ghelaut and Saanvi Thippireddy from IA East, and Seugheon Lee, Julia Triculescu, Jonathan D. Xu, and Eric Zhou from Troy High.

These students were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 students nationwide for their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to their communities. They are also among only 70 students in the state of Michigan to receive this honor. Congratulations to all!

Students at Troy High School have started a new composting initiative aimed at reducing food waste in the cafeteria. Through the Green Space Club, and in collaboration with the Detroit Zoo, over 2,000 students are now composting at school every single day.

Over the course of the school year, Troy High has ramped up their efforts to include sustainable measures within the school.

You’re invited to an informational meeting tomorrow about the Oakland County Regional Enhancement Millage proposal appearing on the August 4, 2026 ballot.

Superintendents will provide an overview of the proposal, including how funds would be distributed, the estimated taxpayer impact, and what it could mean for local public schools and more than 175,000 Oakland County students. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

This meeting is part of an ongoing effort to provide factual information so voters can make an informed decision ahead of the August election.

On Thursday, more than 70 members of the Troy High community gathered at the new concession stand to officially celebrate its opening! The new space was a true labor of love from Troy High Athletic Booster Club President Mike Sumnar, who was honored with a plaque recognizing his years of dedicated service to the Athletic Boosters.

Guests had the chance to tour the new building, which features an impressive lineup of equipment and offerings, including cappuccino and hot chocolate machines, frozen drink machines, endless candy options, and much more!
