1st N.C Battalion Company A. Sharpshooters Created April 26, 1862, from Companys B and E of the 21st North Carolina Infantry Regiment at Gordonsville Virginia.
They were commanded by Major Rufus M. Wharton, former captain of Company E, 21st North Carolina. The Battalion consisted of two companies A (Formerly Company B, 21st North Carolina) and Company B (Formerly Company E, 21st North Carolina). Assigned to Trimble's Brigade, Ewell's Division, Department of Northern Virginia. May 1862 Transferred to the Shenandoah Valley and assigned to Trimble's Brigade
