⁉️ A common question… “What does it mean to track macros?” ⁉️
Nutrition is hard 🤯 There is lots of controversial information to be found on the internet. Blogs, articles, fitness influencers all have different opinions on what to do and what not to do and scientific articles can be difficult to understand. You can find yourself stuck and even more confused after some research than when you started.
We hope to clear some of that confusion up for you. Last time, we talked about what macros are. If you missed it, go check out that post on our page first. 🤓
Tracking macronutrients basically means that you record the fat, carbohydrate and protein content of all the food you consume throughout your day. Similar to tracking calories, except you are going a step deeper. As you found out before, using a formula, the macronutrient content is what makes up the amount of calories in a particular food item.
The amount and percentage of macronutrients can be manipulated in order to achieve particular health, wellness, body composition or performance goals 🏆 At Health & Harmony, we believe tracking macros helps build awareness and knowledge around what you are putting in your body so you can make better, more educated decisions about food.

⁉️ A common question… “What even is a Macro?” ⁉️
Nutrition is hard. There is lots of controversial information to be found on the internet. Blogs, articles, fitness influencers all have different opinions on what to do and what not to do and scientific articles can be difficult to understand. You can find yourself stuck and even more confused after some research than when you started.
We hope to clear some of that confusion up for you. To start, let’s talk about macros. Macros is short for macronutrients, which in short encompasses the three main components of food that your body needs in order to function. They are protein, carbohydrates and fat (or lipids). Alcohol is technically the fourth macronutrient, but it is not commonly talked about since it is not necessary to survive and it is not found in most foods.
The amount of each macronutrient in a food item adds up to the total number of calories of that food. In order to calculate this, you need to know the following:
🥩1 gram of protein = 4 calories
🥐1 gram of carbohydrates = 4 calories
🍳1 gram of fat = 9 calories
🍷(1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories)
The total number of grams per macronutrient can be found on the nutrition label ‼️
Each macronutrient serves a purpose in your body’s processes, which is why they are all important to incorporate in your daily intake.
