Our second book of the Fall 2023 semester has been chosen! We voted to read We Have Always Lived in the Castle for the theme of “female rage”. This is a Lot Society throwback read from Spring 2020 but for most of us it’ll be our first time reading it. We can’t wait to dive in!

For this semester we decided to start on the chaotic route and choose from the theme second book in a duology! Thus we ended up with our first book of the semester: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. We can’t wait to dive into this fast paced novel, especially those of us who haven’t read Six of Crows 📚🐦⬛

In recognition of Queen Elizabeth’s death, Book Club decided to go with the theme of Independence Day: books from authors from countries that gained independence during or close to Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Choosing to honor India, we selected the book The Shadow Lines by Amitav Ghosh, a brilliant and evocative story following the lives of two families, one English, one Indian, and the way their lives interact “in comic and tragic ways.” Very excited to delve into this exploration of identity and memory. 🇮🇳🇬🇧📖✨

For our first book of the semester, book club decided to look back with a twist! Selected from the genre of Alt History, book club will be reading Farthing by Jo Walton which is both a stunning exploration and incredibly British! 🔍🕰📚✨
