STEM innovation competition for high school students in Bay, Midland, Saginaw & Tuscola counties Enter the A.H.

Nickless Innovation Award competition for a chance to create game-changing ideas and win part of more than $75,000 in prizes awarded to students and schools annually. The competition was created to:

• Challenge students to work in teams to think innovatively and build solutions to solve problems impacting our world today and into the future.

• Promote the importance of Science, Technology, Engin

eering and Math skills by showcasing talents in these fields.

• Encourage students to consider creative marketing and financing elements to the solution they are addressing.

• Provide financial awards for students’ future college costs and provide schools with grants to improve equipment, programs and resources.

• Connect business mentors in the Great Lakes Bay Region with high school students to create an open dialogue and give the students real-world experience.

It’s true! When you enter the competition as a student team member, you have the opportunity to win a scholarship of up to $5,000. And when you coach a team, your team’s school could win a STEM education grant of up to $20,000.

NEW for 2026-27: Phase One is starting (and ending) earlier than EVER!

We know that many schools in our region now start school in or around mid-August, so we’ve adjusted our Phase One timeline in a way that better matches the school calendar and also gives the teams that advance to Phase Two even more time to work on their projects.

► Phase One BEGINS on Monday, August 17 (2+ weeks earlier than before)
► Phase One ENDS on Friday, October 9 (~3 weeks earlier than before)
