In this recent incident, police say a man became argumentative at a gas station, left, and then returned with a shotgun. An armed citizen inside the business was suddenly faced with a situation no one expected when they walked through the door that day.

That’s the reality:

🚨 WHEN DANGER SHOWS UP AT YOUR DOOR — ARE YOU PREPARED? 🚨

Yesterday, deputies in Cass County responded to a report of a masked and armed prowler attempting to break into a home.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies confronted the suspect, he raised a firearm and pointed it at them. After dropping the firearm and fleeing, he was eventually taken into custody after threatening deputies with knives.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

But here's the question every homeowner should ask:

If someone is willing to point a firearm at armed police officers and then threaten them with knives, what are they willing to do when confronted by a homeowner?

You don't get to choose when violence comes looking for you.

You don't get advance notice.

And when someone is trying to force their way into your home, that is not the time to discover whether you're actually prepared to protect yourself and your family.

Owning a firearm is only part of being prepared. You need the knowledge, confidence, and training to use it responsibly and effectively if that moment ever comes.

In the midst of chaos, one armed citizen made the decision to move toward the danger—putting himself between a deadly threat and innocent people.

Getting a concealed carry permit doesn’t guarantee how any of us will react when the unthinkable happens. A permit is simply permission to carry. Training is what helps prepare you to act.

This is a powerful reminder that danger doesn't make appointments.

A local resident in the Edwardsburg area reported encountering a suspicious individual standing just feet from their vehicle early in the morning while leaving for the day. Thankfully, they trusted their instincts, created distance, and returned to the safety of their home.

Situational awareness is your first line of defense.

✔️ Keep your head up.
✔️ Trust your instincts.
✔️ Don't ignore that feeling that something isn't right.
✔️ Have a plan before you need one.

Violence and criminal encounters rarely announce themselves. They happen when you're walking to your car, pumping gas, or running everyday errands. You don't get to choose the time or place—but you can choose to be prepared.

If you choose to carry a firearm for personal protection, make it part of your daily routine. Carry consistently, train regularly, and understand the laws governing the use of force. A firearm without training and awareness is not enough.
