Sometimes a friendship ends and you never really get to understand why.
I had that happen with someone who had been a long-term friend. Years after something apparently happened between us, I received an email ending the friendship. There was no real conversation and no opportunity to understand what had gone wrong.
It hurt.
But eventually I realized something important: I have no control over what another person thinks, believes, chooses to do, or how they perceive me.
I can only decide what I do next.
I can respect their decision, move forward, and choose not to carry that hurt into the relationships I have now or the ones I haven’t even made yet.
One person’s decision to leave my life doesn’t get to determine how willing I am to let other people into it.

He made a 300-page PowerPoint.
And yes, I looked at every single page.
He didn’t believe me, so he quizzed me on it. I passed. 😂
Did I understand everything in those 300 pages? Absolutely not.
But that wasn’t the point.
The point was that he had created something that mattered to him, and he chose to share it with me. Taking the time to look at it was my way of showing him that what he cared about mattered to me, too.
Sometimes connecting with a kid means entering their world, even when their world happens to be a 300-page PowerPoint.
Because underneath all of it is a much bigger message:
You’re worth my time.
