Congratulations to UT Tyler School of Performing Arts alumnus Darren Castilaw (BM '21) on completing his first year as Assistant Principal at Hallsville ISD!

After graduating from UT Tyler in 2021, Darren began his career in education as a band director at Quitman ISD. Since then, he has transitioned into campus leadership and recently completed his first year serving as Assistant Principal at Hallsville ISD.

Darren's journey reflects the many pathways available to music education graduates, and we are excited to see him making a positive impact on students and schools through educational leadership.

Monday Patriot Milestones 🎓

Congratulations to Isaac Sanderson, who graduated from UT Tyler in Spring 2026 with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Education and a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Performance and has recently been hired as a band director at Chapel Hill Junior High School.

As Isaac begins his first year in the profession, he joins a long tradition of UT Tyler music alumni who are making an impact in classrooms and communities across East Texas. We are excited to see him take this important first step in his career and wish him all the best as he inspires the next generation of musicians.

Congratulations to Patriot Sax Studio member Perry Perez on headlining his first jazz club dates with his quartet! 🎷✨

This summer, Perry performed at two iconic Texas venues—Monks Jazz in Austin and Emmit’s Place in Houston. We are proud to see his hard work and artistry recognized on these stages and look forward to following his continued success.

Congratulations to UT Tyler School of Performing Arts alumna Susie Allen (BM '12) on her appointment as Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at Hillsboro ISD!

Since graduating from UT Tyler in 2012, Susie has built a successful career in music education, most recently serving as Head Band Director at Palestine ISD. This summer, she accepted a new leadership role with Hillsboro ISD as Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands.

We are proud to see Susie continue to advance in her career and take on this exciting opportunity to serve students, educators, and fine arts programs at the district level.
