This is how it all started. Linda gave her first lesson at the age of nine to the child next door to a friend's house where Linda was spending par

t of the summer. The neighbor was despondent after being told he would be repeating third grade the next year due to his inability to read. Linda quickly realized he was reading letter by letter, not understanding how to turn letters into syllables. She explained how syllables work and they read together for hours every day until her vacation was over. Her experience teaching that summer resulted in a determination to someday become a teacher and advocate for her students.
