Thia and Penny recently had the opportunity to attend the Conscious Discipline event “Coaching Yourself So You Can Coach Others” in Oklahoma City, OK. This powerful experience focused on the importance of self-awareness and self-regulation as the foundation for effective coaching and leadership.

Throughout the event, they explored practical strategies for recognizing personal stress responses, regulating emotions in challenging moments, and modeling calm, intentional behavior for others. Emphasis was placed on understanding how our own regulation directly impacts the way we support educators, children, and teams.

Thia and Penny are excited to bring these self-regulation tools and Conscious Discipline strategies back to our program to strengthen relationships, support staff well-being, and foster a more connected, regulated, and responsive learning environment for everyone.

The Colfax and Menomonie Head Start centers hosted the Dunn County Community Partner Luncheon on January 8, 2026, at the Dunn County Government Center. Twenty-six community partners gathered for an afternoon of collaboration, connection, and shared learning.

Participants enjoyed a delicious chicken and wild rice soup accompanied by an assortment of cheese and crackers while engaging in meaningful conversation. The luncheon provided an opportunity for local organizations to share community data, highlight available resources, and discuss ways to strengthen support for children and families throughout Dunn County.

By bringing partners together in a relaxed and welcoming setting, the event reinforced the importance of collaboration in addressing community needs. The Colfax and Menomonie Head Start teams appreciate the continued partnership and commitment of local agencies and look forward to building on these connections to better serve families in the year ahead.
