KSL recently completed one of our largest wildfire assessment and prevention projects to date—evaluating 89 K-12 and college campuses across California.

Our team, led by retired firefighters, engineers, and assistant fire chiefs with more than six decades of combined wildfire response experience, personally walked all 89 properties to identify potential defensible-space vulnerabilities, evaluate emergency preparedness procedures, and assess site-specific wildfire risk.

The project also incorporated drone technology, historical wildfire data, regional trends, mapping, site imagery, and recommended maintenance schedules to produce comprehensive reports for each location—helping schools take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk throughout the year.

This large-scale prevention effort was made possible through our continued partnership with Alliance of Schools for Cooperative Insurance Programs (ASCIP) .

We are proud to support schools and colleges with practical, site-specific strategies designed to improve preparedness and strengthen campus resilience. Every student should know this resource exists.

If a n**e, partially n**e, or sexually explicit image or video was taken of someone while they were under 18 and has been shared — or they are worried it may be shared — Take It Down is a free resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) that can help stop or limit the online spread of that content.

The service is designed to protect privacy. The image or video stays on the person’s device while a digital fingerprint, or “hash,” is created and shared with participating platforms.

For schools, educators, parents, and safety professionals, simply making students aware that this resource exists can make a meaningful difference.

Our Nor. Cal team recently completed a site-specific Workplace Violence Prevention Training for employees at Clovis Community College Herndon Campus.

Hosted by President Kim Armstrong, the training focused on practical, life-saving skills including situational awareness, Stop the Bleed, evacuation, lockdown best practices, and workplace violence response.

Recently, one of our Northern California training teams had the opportunity to work with the staff at Sacramento Country Day School, providing customized, site-specific lockdown and emergency preparedness training.

The training focused on practical, age-appropriate strategies designed to help school employees feel more prepared and confident during an emergency. Staff received hands-on instruction and resources covering:

• Situational Awareness – recognizing potential concerns before they escalate
• Classroom Lockdown Best Practices – age-appropriate strategies for protecting students and staff
• Emergency Evacuation – understanding when and how to safely transition from lockdown to evacuation

Preparing Campus Security Teams for the Challenges They Face Every Day

Recently, we had the opportunity to provide a customized professional development program for the campus security team at Central Unified School District in Fresno, California.

This training went beyond traditional emergency preparedness and focused on the real-world situations campus security professionals may encounter while protecting students and staff.

The program included:

🔹 Lockdown Response for Campus Security — Site-specific strategies for challenging situations such as passing periods, lunch, and other times when students may be outside the protection of a classroom.

🔹 Stop the Bleed® Certification — Each member of the security team received training in nationally recognized lifesaving bleeding-control techniques.

🔹 The Threat Within — Our newest student protection program, focused on recognizing grooming, boundary violations, inappropriate adult-to-student behavior, and other warning signs associated with sexual abuse and exploitation.

🔹 Online Threats to Students — Increasing awareness of emerging online dangers, including TCC, 764 and other forms of online predatory and exploitative behavior, so campus security professionals are better equipped to recognize when a student may be at risk.

Effective campus security is about more than responding to emergencies. It requires recognizing warning signs, understanding emerging threats, and giving staff the knowledge and confidence to act when something isn’t right.
