Join us for Critter Craft Club Monday 8/31! Ziggy will show off her gorgeous colors and pain this fun watercolor with us!

Ziggy is a Caribena Veriscolor tarantula, known for their beautiful iridescent colors! She is named after Ziggy Stardust so obviously the perfect critter for this craft!

🪐Spiders in space? Who would have thought! Join us monday to learn about the first "Arachnauts" that sent to space while we make this fun little watercolor of spiders in space!

Ziggy, our C. Versicolor Tarantula will be there to inspire us, as well as help us learn about spiders and the role they play in our ecosystem (and solar system 🤓)!

Critter Craft Club happens every monday! Always features a live critter and a craft as we learn about wildlife and their roles in our environment. Located at 91A N. Washington Street, Sonora CA.

Critter Craft Club is going to space this Monday! In this guided class we will be making a spiders in space with watercolors and paint pens! We will learn about the spiders that NASA sent to space and inspired this craft. Ziggy, our C. This new condition will help me be able to ensure I have enough supplies for everyone and give me enough time to prep properly. Prior is would get most sign ups the day of, and that would leave me scrambling a bit to make sure everything was set up. So new sign up deadlines will be a thing here on out! 😉

Meet Dwebble🐚✨

Say hello to the newest member of our invertebrate education team, Dwebble! While he might look like he’s just wearing a cool shell, there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface.

Here are 3 fun Hermit Crab facts:

1. Ultimate Recyclers: Hermit crabs aren't born with their own shells; they borrow discarded sea snail shells to protect their soft, vulnerable abdomens. As they grow, they have to "house hunt" for a bigger upgrade!

2. Social Swap Meet: When a fresh shell washes ashore, wild hermit crabs form a line from largest to smallest. They pass the shells down the line until everyone gets a fitting upgrade!

3. Modified Gills: Even though land hermit crabs live on shore, they still breathe using modified gills that must stay damp to pull oxygen from the air!

4. No Flashy Shells Needed: Hermit Crabs need natural, unpainted shells as painted commercial shells can peel and expose crabs to harmful chemicals that can hurt them or worse.

✨️Critter Craft Club✨️

This coming Monday, August 24th, for Critter Craft Club we are going to be looking at several LIVE (non venomous) snakes and their patterns and creating our own snakes with paper, markers, crayons, googly eyes, and more!

All supplies will be included and snake heads and tails will be provided to allow for more time for creativity with the snakes body. You will be able to design your snake however you like with patterns, colored paper, scrapbook paper, and more. The pictured paper chain snake is just an example of the shape, not necessarily the artistic outcome since everyone has their own creative style!

This craft is suitable for all ages, and is a fun decorative item for their bedrooms or play areas! We hope to see you there!

Zoolander and I are super excited for today's Critter Craft Club classes! Sign ups close at 11AM TODAY so sign up ASAP if you still want to get in! This will be a fun one! Classes will now be 90 minutes and have three class times to choose from!

For this Critter Craft we will be using oil pastels and watercolors to make a colorful portrait of Zoolander, our crested gecko! For this craft Zoolander will be there and we will get to have some hands on interactions and maybe even get to see him leap!

This activity if for all ages, though we will be tracing an image to paint so ability to trace and follow lines with a pencil is a bonus!☺️

Registration for the next Critter Craft Club is live and has a few new features! Classes will now be 90 minutes and have three class times to choose from!
