The Royalty Owners and Producers Educational Coalition (ROPE) was the idea of a longtime National Association of Royalty Owners (NARO) member, Julie Kruger.
ROPE's purpose is to reach out to all royalty owners who may not be aware that policies and politics on a local, state and federal level can have a dramatic affect on their royalty income. As past chair of the NARO National Legislative Council, Ms. Kruger realized the power in the multitude of royalty owner voices. The problem was how can the oil and natural gas messaging be delivered to millions
of individuals. After numerous attempts to get an effort started, she finally got key individuals at Apache Corp, Continental Resources, Devon Energy and Newfield Exploration to agree to initially fund ROPE as a pilot project. The next step in formation of ROPE was to get the NARO Board of Directors to agree to work with ROPE and to encourage NARO members to serve the ROPE Board of Directors, in a collaborative issues education effort with independent oil and gas company representatives. So, ROPE was incorporated in September 2012, in the State of Oklahoma as a not-for-profit organization with a Board of Directors made up of an equal number of royalty owners and company representatives. It is anticipated that ROPE will provide topical, factual information on local, state and federal policy and political issues that can affect oil and gas royalty income.
