Teachers Institute for Tulsa Tulsa Public Schools is participating in the Yale National Initiative to strengthen teaching in public schools.

We are currently in the Planning Phase of establishing a Teacher Institute in Tulsa. This is a joint partnership between Tulsa Public Schools and The University of Tulsa. Teachers Institutes are educational partnerships between universities and school districts designed to strengthen teaching and learning in a community’s high-poverty public schools. An Institute places equal emphasis on teachers increasing their knowledge of a subject and their developing teaching strategies that will be effective with their students. At the core of its program is a series of collaborative seminars on subjects in the humanities and the sciences.

In other TIFT-related news, Leo Orsini, an undergraduate researcher studying our program, presented his research at TU’s Student Success Showcase this past week! He administered two surveys over the course of this year’s seminars, and the data showed that TIFT Fellows 1. Wanted more autonomy in the classroom than they currently had and 2. Understood their curriculum to be more effective than standardized curriculum. Well done, Leo! 👏🎉
