Happy World Mental Health Day! I hope you’ve been resting or will rest this weekend. We know I love the kids! So where does the youth find themselves on a day like today?
Youth mental health is constantly being affected. Are cellphones to blame? Does banning cellphones in class fix THE issue? Read my latest article on substack for my thoughts.

What are you or your little one reading for Get Caught Reading Month?
As summer is approaching reading becomes extremely important. The break from school means a break from learning. A break in learning is a break from academic skills - which can lead to a loss of academic skills. This break from learning is known as the "summer slide”.
According to a Kids and Family Reading Report from Scholastic, the summer slide can be attributed largely to the lack of reading during breaks from school. This makes a huge difference in how kids show up for the next school year. This worsens since the effects of the summer slide add up.
Researchers suggest that by middle school, students who have difficulty reading can fall behind by about two years due to summer reading loss. By addressing the lack of access to information and resources, we can help close this reading achievement gap. Thanks to the Kids & Family Reading Report, we know that when parents are aware of the summer slide, both kiddos and parents are more engaged in summer reading.
So, what are you and your little one / teen reading for Get Caught Reading Month?

We were on TV! I joined the News on 6 show to discuss my new book! We Did THAT! fills a gap in the media. It’s acts as a source of representation. Our book is a mirror for kiddos. They are able to see themselves reflected in the triumphs and achievements of people that look like them.
Watch the video and tell me what you think. You can order a copy of the book here -> www.cboriginal.com/shop.

I’m so excited to announce I’ve written a book! It’s a children’s activity book that centers Black history to build a strong sense of self. If you know me, then you’ve heard me say this before. I believe that while stories matter and well-represented stories matter more. It is the stories you tell yourself that matter most.
I briefly touch on this in my TEDxTalk. The stories kids are telling themselves are so important - it develops identity. I want to make sure they are telling themselves stories that uplift, empower and encourage them to dream!
This Sunday, I will be participating in Tulsa’s LitFest!Join me for my first Author Fair. You can stop by to purchase a copy of my book or ask any questions you may have. I’ll see you on April 21st from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fulton Street!
