1️⃣ Read every day

Firstly, you need to read. You need to read from myriad sources. Articles online, newspapers, novels, and journals are wonderful places to start. Try not to read consciously and just go with the flow of the text. If there ever was a panacea to cracking the IELTS, it is this tip. READ. EVERY. DAY. It could just be for half an hour or 45 minutes, but make sure you read.

2️⃣Read the questions first:

This tip is a game-changer when it comes to the IELTS. You have 60 minutes to answer 40 questions linked to 3 texts. Time is of the essence, so you cannot read the text fully and take your own sweet time. Read the questions first. This will tell you what to look for when you get to the passage and save precious time.

3️⃣Reread the questions and understand them :

Seriously, a small error in understanding what the question wants can pull you back a long way. Read the questions thoroughly.

4️⃣Scan, skim and summarize :

What?!? So much to do? Hold your horses there! This is a tip that will work wonders if you follow it up with Tip 1 (seriously, start reading today!). Skim the passage given to you and look for main ideas, understand the layout of the text, highlight keywords and salient points, and try to make sense of what the passage is about. This is key when it comes to the Reading Section.

What is the IELTS Listening Test Format❓

1️⃣In the first recording, you’ll hear a whole conversation between two speakers, for example, a conversation about travel arrangements, opening a bank account, or inquiring about a training course.

2️⃣In the second recording, you’ll hear a monologue or just one person speaking, for example, a speech about community activities, someone giving information on something such as a guided museum tour, or information about a conference.

3️⃣The last two recordings deal with education or training-related situation in section 3 there’s a conversation between two main speakers, for example, 2 university students in discussion perhaps guided by a Tutor.

4️⃣The fourth recording is a monologue on an academic subject and is usually a university style lecture. This could be related to any academic topic.

You can only listen to the recordings once, that means if you want to do well on the listening task you need to be well prepared. To be well-prepared you need to be very familiar with the listening tasks so let’s take a look at these now.

4️⃣ ways to hedge to avoid overgeneralising in an IELTS essay

1. Add a quantifier to the sentence – e.g. Most women are better at multi-tasking than men. ✏️most women✏️

3. Add an adverb of frequency – e.g. Students who leave school at 16 don't usually get good jobs. ✏️students who leave school at 16 ✏️

4. Add a modal verb – e.g. Working shifts can make employees depressed. ✏️can make✏️

🔍Now, hedging is a strange word. In the world of plants, it is the small bush that grows between people’s houses, but in academic writing, the term simply means adding words to your sentences to make them less general. And this is what you need to start doing in your essays to ✅achieve a 7.0 or higher for Task Achievement.

The 1️⃣st Conditional

The first conditional has the

➡️present simple after 'if',

➡️then the future simple in the other clause:

🔴if + present simple, 🟢... will + infinitive

☑️It's used to talk about things which might happen in the future. Of course, we can't know what will happen in the future, but this describes possible things, which could easily come true.

🙌 TIP: If it’s hard for you to remember the formula, remember a simple example:
